Sunday 28th June 2015

Forth Sunday after Trinity

Coming together in worship today, we bring all that we are and are not, and all that our lives hold and don’t hold, to our living God. Led by God’s peace and seeking God’s healing, let us share God’s love in worship here.

Gospel Mark 5:21-43
Jesus restores life to a woman living a half-life and raises a young girl from death.

God of the living, in whose image we have been formed with imperishable life as our destiny, dispel from your people the fear of death and awaken within us the faith that saves. Bid us rise from the death of sin to take our place in the new creation. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

New Musical Setting for St. Dunstan’s
We have begun using the Trinity Mass Setting composed by David Thorne for the Parish Eucharist. For those who have internet access the setting can be listened to on http://www.culvermusic.com/trinity-mass.html After you’ve had a chance to sing/listen to it several times I’d be very grateful for any comments. James

Fellowship Group
Copies of the fellowship programme are now available towards the back of the church. The next walk is on Tuesday 23rd June meeting in the lay-by at 9.15am – again everyone is welcome. “Knit-ins” will be in the Church Hall on the 4th Thursday of each month starting at 2.00pm. The Fellowship Summer Party takes in/beside the church hall at 7pm on July 9th. All welcome.

Concert and Afternoon Tea: The Chandos Ensemble
On Sunday July 12th at 3.30pm there will be a concert of popular music for string orchestra including: Elgar Serenade for Strings, Albinoni Oboe Concerto in D minor and Handel Concerto Grosso Op.6 conducted by Patrick Garrett and leader Marion Garrett. This will be followed by afternoon tea and a raffle (please bring a chair with you if you’d like to sit outside). Tickets are £8/adult and £2/accompanied child available from Pat Kimber 01844 273942 or the Elephant’s Trunk, Duke Street, Princes Risborough.

Can you help on Sunday 12th July - Chandos Music Ensemble Event?

Please sign the list in the porch with your name and telephone number if you are able to help in any way. We are catering for about 150 people and welcome volunteers to:  collect and return tables, set up, serve tea and scones, bake scones, provide 2 cakes for refreshments for the performers, serve refreshments to the performers, wash up. For full information please call Cathy on 343226.

Can you drop off a key in Aylesbury on a Monday/Tuesday in July?
We are having a duplicate made of one of our medieval keys.  This is a craftsman’s job and is hand filed and could take a month or so.  We need the key for Sundays but it would be helpful for the cutter to have the key for as long as possible during the week.  I would be very grateful if anyone (or two!) could take it in for me (Gatehouse Way industrial area, near the big Tescos) and I can pick it up on Saturdays. Susanne 01844 342746

Ideas for the South Aisle
You’ll notice that the altar has been removed from underneath the St. Cecilia window. This has created some space and highlighted the two lovely brasses there. The space will be used by Bucks Open Studios in June and also by musicians when we have concerts. It may be appropriate to install a servery there sympathetic to the rest of the church which doesn’t take up much space. It may be best to leave the space empty to give greater flexibility for hosting events and special services, or you may have some ideas yourself. Any thoughts gratefully received. James

Sunday 14th June 2015

Second Sunday after Trinity

Jesus affirmed that great results can grow from very small beginnings. In our worship today let us hold our own vision within the presence of God, knowing that God can induce such growth that the smallest of seeds can grow into a mighty tree.

Anthem: Above all praise and all majesty, F. Mendelssohn

First Reading Ezekiel 17 v 22-end
Using a gardening metaphor, God promises to produce amazing new growth in his people

Second Reading 2 Corinthians 5:6-17
St Paul reminds us that despite our continuing failures, each of us is a new creation in Christ.

Gospel: Mark 4:26-34
Using farming parables, Jesus tells us that through God we can achieve anything. God does the background work, producing an abundant harvest.

Readings: 2 Corinthians 5 v 6-17, Mark 4 v 26-34

6.00pm Evensong
Readings: Jeremiah 7 v 1-16, Romans 9 v 14-26

Prayer for the week
O God, at whose bidding the seed will sprout and the shoot grow towards full stature, hear the prayer of your assembled people. Make us trust in your hidden ways, that we may pray with confidence and wait for your kingdom now growing in our midst. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:

  • The people of the world that we may learn to live peaceably with others and accept those who are different from us
  • A compassionate response to the migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea and for the eradication of people trafficking
  • Confectioners for the sticky treats they make, that they may be delicious and a real treat
