The Junior Church (10 o’clock Club) meet in the Church Hall before coming into Church for Communion

Sunday 14th July 2013
Seventh Sunday after Trinity
God has only created one humanity. Let us come before God with openness to the Spirit and to one another.

10.00am    Parish Eucharist
Hymns: 281, 736, 428
Psalm: 25 v1-10
Communion: 455, 606, 946

First Reading   Deuteronomy 30 v 9-14
Our task is to keep all of God's laws and teachings: the key is in a simple willingness to love God and therefore love neighbour.

Second Reading     Colossians 1 v 1-14
The lives of the Colossian believers were certainly full: according to this passage, they are full of the Spirit and transformed by love. Paul doesn't burden them with thousands of rules, but prays that as they receive more of the Spirit, they will be able to live as God wants.

Gospel      Luke 10 v 25-37
The Samaritan's actions are so simple, so straightfoward, so humane. Yet with all the unresolved business of generations of sectarian violence and hatred, they were so difficult and challenging to Jesus' listeners. The conclusion is that the Samaritan acted as the neighbour – and God says, “Love your neighbour as yourself.” This can only mean letting go of “them and us” barriers.

11.30 Holy Communion (BCP), Owlswick
Deuteronomy 30 v 9-14; Luke 10 v 25-37

6.00pm    Choral Evensong

Hymns: 367, 77, 457
Psalm: 77 v1-10
Readings: Genesis 32 v 9-30, Mark 7 v 1-23

Prayer for the Week
In Christ you draw near to us, God of mercy and compassion, lifting us out of death, binding up our wounds, and nursing our spirits back to health. Let such a tenderness as yours compel us to go and do likewise. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • The PCC and parish of St. John’s, Lacey Green during the interregnum there.
  • The completion of the archaeological dig and churchyard extension
  • the people of Egypt, and for all others living in parts of the world where there is conflict
  • the family of Lee Rigby and for all families that have lost loved ones in tragic circumstances
  • For Princes Risborough Town Council, Community and Residents’ Associations.
  • For those who live in Kingsmead (MR) Centenary Cottages & Chestnut Way (L) Chiltern Close (PR)
  • For software companies, for the huge demand for their products and the employment they create
  • The Confederation of British Industry and its members, for local businesses and the wealth they generate
  • those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Richard Irvine, Alastair, David Holding
  • The recently departed:
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Ernest Harris, Flora Hartle, Jim Tweedie, David Morris

Please remember the charities that the parish supports, in particular this week:
Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, offering specialist and supportive care and advice for patients with cancer and other life threatening illnesses in their homes.

Flower Festival and Bucks Arts Week
Thank you to everyone who made this event such a wonderful occasion. It was terrific to see so many people helping out and enjoying the weekend. Money is still being received and there are some expenses to be paid but we hope to have raised in excess of £4,000 to help repair the stonework and bell tower window. There are also now cards available to buy of the various floral displays. We have also now had all of the commission cheques from the artists who displayed at Bucks Arts Week which totalled an amazing £1920. Thank you to everyone who made the artists feel so welcome.

Cleaning of the organ
This is due to be completed on Friday July 19th. There may be times when the church is closed to facilitate this work. If you need to obtain entry to the church please speak with one of the key holders. I apologise for any inconvenience caused. James

Lighthouse Shine Out
It’s getting towards that time of year again when Lighthouse begins to shine about what we have planned for the children of the parish! We are calling on our wonderful cake makers! We rely solely on donations to ensure we can provide Lighthouse Week free of charge to all children who want to come and one of our biggest incomes is from selling all your lovely cakes during the week in our cafe. So please – if you can make a cake let Melanie Calver know your details including name, contact number and type of cake. We are in need adults who are prepared to lead one or two Fiesta sessions in the evenings for the teenage helpers. All the preparation will be done for you, so please if you can spare 3 hours to lead our teenagers through some fun activities we would very much like to hear from you! Sixth Sunday after Trinity

Jesus said, “Take nothing for the journey.” Well, we bring all kinds of things to this journey of faith: our hopes and fears, joys and sorrows. As we come to the living God, we ask that he takes all that we bring and transforms it into something that has the power and love of God at its heart.

Communion: 555, 67, 88, 386

First Reading   Psalm 66 v 1-8
Shout for joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious.

Second Reading     Luke 10 v 1-11 & 16-20
Having previously sent the twelve disciples on a mission to preach, Jesus now extends the task to seventy followers. They return with joy, having seen the power of God in their hands.

6.00pm    Farewell Service at St. Mary's, for Rev Denise Critchell

Creator God, you made us all in your image:
may we discern you in all that we see,

  • Those involved in the archaeological dig
  • The meeting of the General Synod in York and the continuing debate about women bishops

Flower Festival
Thank you
to everyone who made this event such a wonderful occasion. It was terrific to see so many people helping out and enjoying the weekend. Money is still being received and there are some expenses to be paid but we hope to have raised in excess of £4,000 to help repair the stonework and bell tower window. There are also now cards available to buy of the various floral displays.

Thank You and Help!
After many years of being on the Church Cleaning Rota, Sally Mortimer has decided to have a rest and pass on the baton to another able person – SO a very big THANK YOU to her and HELP! I need some one to take her place. Anyone who can help will be warmly welcomed. Duties are not difficult; mainly dusting and vacuum cleaning, and we work in twos. The more we have the less number of times a year we are called on to help. Please contact Margaret Pitman 01844 346008 if you can help in any way.

Trip to Salisbury Saturday September 21st

We shall be leaving Salisbury at about 6.15 pm to return to Monks Risborough at approximately 8.30pm. The cost of the trip is £18 (children £9) which includes entry to the cathedral (cash/cheques payable to PCC Monks Risborough to be passed to James). I can wriggle like a worm, jump like a flea,
growl like a tiger and buzz like a bee.
I can waddle like a duck and sing like a bird.
I am wonderfully made, wonderfully made,
And I thank You God.
I can slither like a snake, run like a hare,
Dive like a dolphin, and hug like a bear.
I can curl up like a cat and dig like a dog.
I am wonderfully made, wonderfully made,
And I thank You God.
I can wriggle like a worm, jump like a flea,
growl like a tiger and buzz like a bee.
I can waddle like a duck and sing like a bird.
I am wonderfully made, wonderfully made,
And I thank You God.
I am wonderfully made, wonderfully made,
And I thank You God.
Our God is a great big God,
Our God is a great big God,
Our God is a great big God,
And he holds us in his hands.    (Repeat)

He's higher than a sky scraper
and he's deeper than a submarine.
He's wider than the universe
and beyond my wildest dreams.
And he's known me and he's loved me
since before the world began.
How wonderful to be a part of God's amazing plan.
