Bucks Arts Week
This has again proved highly successful. Over 1,000 people were welcomed to St. Dunstan’s to view a variety of high quality and affordable work. At weekends cream teas were served which raised over £550. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who was involved.

National Garden Scheme Open Gardens
Pamela and Edwin Rye are opening their garden at 11 The Paddocks, Wendover, HP22 6HE for the NGS on Friday July 5th from 5 to 8.30 pm and July 6th and 7th from 2 to 5.30pm. Do come and support a great charity.

Sunday 7th July Picnic and Chocolate HuntMeet at 1.00 p.m. for Picnic. 1.30 p.m. Chocolate Hunt begins. Venue: Beside the Whiteleaf Cross Car Park
This is a FREE EVENT organised by Churches Together in Risborough and open to the whole Community. Just turn up with your own picnic. The Chocolate Hunt is for children accompanied by an adult. A guided walk for adults without children will also begin at 1.30 p.m. and will be less than two miles. In the event of bad weather the event may be cancelled (phone: 07778 976679 after 12.00 noon)

Chariot: The Eric Liddell Story
A Searchlight Theatre Production at the Oasis Centre,
Bell Street, Princes Risborough on Thursday July 11th at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 each (family ticket £15 for 2 adults & 2 children from the same family). Tickets are available from Pat Kimber on 01844 273942
Made famous by the award winning film ‘Chariots of Fire’, this new dramatization brings to life on stage the incredibly inspiring story of Eric Liddell. Paris, 6th July 1924 – the night before he has been asked to run for his country on the Sunday, we see the struggles he overcomes to stay true to his principles and what would await him once the Games were over.

Fellowship Group
On Thursday 11th July, Brian and Jackie Highe will be sharing their “experiences of bee keeping” in the church hall at 8 pm. Refreshments: Sally Mortimer, Brass: Morna Hinch & Betty Thomas. The next walk is on Tuesday 23rd July – meet in layby at 9.15am 

Friendship Group
We meet in the church hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm. The next meeting is Wednesday 17th July

Lighthouse Shine Out
It’s getting towards that time of year again when Lighthouse begins to shine about what we have planned for the children of the parish!
We are calling on our wonderful cake makers! We rely solely on donations to ensure we can provide Lighthouse Week free of charge to all children who want to come and one of our biggest incomes is from selling all your lovely cakes during the week in our cafe. So please – if you can make a cake let Melanie Calver know your details including name, contact number and type of cake.
We are in need adults who are prepared to lead one or two Fiesta sessions in the evenings for the teenage helpers. All the preparation will be done for you, so please if you can spare 3 hours to lead our teenagers through some fun activities we would very much like to hear from you! Lighthouse week runs from Monday July 29th to Friday August 2nd.

Trip to Salisbury Saturday September 21st
Leaving at 8.45 am from the lay-by in Monks Risborough, a coach trip is being organised to Salisbury Cathedral. As part of the trip there will be a tour round the Cathedral at 12 noon together with the opportunity to attend choral evensong at 5.30 pm. At your leisure you may also wish to view the Magna Carta and/or visit the various places of interest in and around the wonderful cathedral close such as Mompesson House (National Trust); The Rifles Museum, the Salisbury Museum or the Christian bookshop at Sarum College. We shall be leaving Salisbury at about 6.15 pm to return to Monks Risborough at approximately 8.30pm. The cost of the trip is £18 (children £9) which includes entry to the cathedral. First Reading    Isaiah 65 v 1-9
Many Jews questioned whether God was justified in punishing them so harshly: allowing their country to be defeated and their people taken into exile. In our reading, God gives his response.

Second Reading     Galatians 3 v 23-end
Paul explains that the Jewish Law had a temporary role that ended with Christ’s coming. It brought awareness of sin, but not freedom from it; only Christ’s death could do that. 

Gospel    Luke 8 v 26-39
Jesus has just crossed over the stormy Sea of Galilee into Gentile territory so that he can help one very troubled man.

St. Dunstan’s Flower Festival: 28th 29th 30th June and 1st July

We will be serving cream teas/refreshments from 10 until 5.30 on each day. If you can help serve teas at any time on Friday 28th or Monday 1st please contact Janet Griffin 274235. If you can help on Saturday 29th or Sunday 30th (especially between 12 & 2 pm on the Saturday) please contact Cathy Farquhar 343226 or cathy.farquhar@btinternet.com We are expecting over 2000 visitors.  If you are able to bake cakes or scones we would be very grateful and have freezer space!

Flower Festival Sponsors and raffle tickets
If you would like to sponsor arrangement of a favourite saint for as little as £5 or £10 please pick up a leaflet from the table by the door. Raffle tickets are now available to sell with lots of fantastic prizes. Raffle ticket stubs should be returned to Peter Miles by Sunday June 30th at the latest. The aim of the Flower Festival is to open up the church to the community and to raise in excess of £5,000 for repairs to the font, stained glass window in the bell tower and a crack in the masonry by the flag pole.

Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife, is pregnant by King David who sees to it that Uriah is killed in battle. Nathan the prophet takes David to task for his behaviour.

Paul emphasises that it is not through following any law that we are justified in God’s eyes, but by faith in Jesus Christ who died and now lives in us.

Gospel    Luke 7 v 36 to Ch. 8 v 3
Jesus is eating at a Pharisee’s house when a sinful woman starts to weep and anoint Jesus’ feet. The Pharisee despises both the woman, for her behaviour, and Jesus, for not turning her away. Jesus is of a different opinion.

St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church
As part of St. Teresa’s 75th anniversary celebrations we have received an invitation for up to six people to attend a reception with drinks and nibbles on Saturday July 6th at 12 noon. This is followed by an opportunity to visit the church and to view the special 75th Anniversary Exhibition on the history of the church. Stirred by the Spirit of God and warmed by the love of the Son, we come into God’s presence to bring him our worship and our lives.

First Reading    1 Kings 17 v 8-16

Having left Israel at God’s command during a famine, Elijah is sustained by a Phoenician widow’s hospitality and God’s miraculous provision of food. When the widow’s son dies, Elijah’s prayers restore his life, confirming Elijah as a man of God. 

Second Reading     Galatians 1 v 11-end

Paul emphasises the authenticity of his apostleship, received through God’s direct revelation of his Son. God’s intervention has transformed him from zealous Jew to preacher of the Christian faith he once sought to destroy.

Gospel    Luke 7 v 11-17

When Jesus encounters a funeral party on the outskirts of a town near Nazareth, he brings the widow’s dead son back to life. The awed crowd acclaim Jesus as God’s prophet.

Prayer for the Week
Eternal God, in Christ you have sought us with a shepherd’s heart, and we have rejoiced to be found and restored. Multiply in all the world the wonders of your saving grace, and gather your scattered people until heaven resounds in jubilation at humanity made whole and creation restored. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  •  Prince Philip during his stay in hospital
  •  The millions of men, women and children who have become refugees as a result of the fighting in Syria
  •   Bucks Arts Week, The Flower Festival and the archaeological dig all taking place over the next few weeks
  •  for companies who make a product and for those who sell it, for good design, good quality and good price
  •  those who live in Upper Icknield Way (PR) and West Lane (B)
  •  those in need who are known in our parish:

Fellowship Group
On Saturday 15th June at 6.30pm, Alison & David Kemp are hosting a Garden Party at their home (Windleshaw, Upper Icknield Way, Whiteleaf). Everyone is welcome.
Our next walk is on Tuesday 25th June – please meet in layby at 9.15am.
‘Knit-ins’ are in the Church Hall on the 4th Thursday of each month starting at 2pm.

Cream Teas at St Dunstan's - during Bucks Open Studios
2,30pm - 4.30 on Saturday 15th, Sunday 16th June, Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd June. We need helpers to serve refreshments and volunteers to bake cakes and scones. If you can help please contact Cathy Farquhar 343226 or sign the sheet in the church porch. On these weekends and during the week various exhibitors will be displaying their paintings, ceramics, jewellery etc. in the church.

Flower Festival: Cream teas/refreshments
We will be serving cream teas/refreshments from 10 until 5.30 on each day. If you can help serve teas at any time on Friday 28th or Monday 1st please contact Janet Griffin 274235. If you can help on Saturday 29th or Sunday 30th please contact Cathy Farquhar 343226 or cathy.farquhar@btinternet.com We are expecting over 2000 visitors.  If you are able to bake cakes or scones we would be very grateful and have freezer space!

Flower Festival: Sponsors and raffle tickets
If you would like to sponsor arrangement of a favourite saint for as little as £5 or £10 please pick up a leaflet from the table by the door. Raffle tickets are now on sale with lots of fantastic prizes. Tickets and monies should be returned to Pat Kimber (273942) by Sunday June 30th at the latest. The aim of the Flower Festival is to open up the church to the community and to raise in excess of £5,000 for repairs to the font, stained glass window in the bell tower and a crack in the masonry by the flag pole.

Friendship Group
We meet in the church hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 2.30pm. The next meeting is Wednesday 19th June.

Lighthouse Shine Out
It’s getting towards that time of year again when Lighthouse begins to shine about what we have planned for the children of the parish! Our next event this year is Lighthouse Lunch on 21st June at 12pm in the Oasis Centre. Tickets are £20 and include a 2 course meal, coffee and wine and great company. This was a resounding success last year so please make sure you get your tickets well in advance from Melanie Calver (07808 765 029). Lighthouse week runs from Monday July 29th to Friday August 2nd.

St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church
As part of St. Teresa’s 75th anniversary celebrations we have received an invitation for up to six people to attend a reception with drinks and nibbles on Saturday July 6th at 12 noon. This is followed by an opportunity to visit the church and to view the special 75th Anniversary Exhibition on the history of the church. If you are interested in coming to this event please let James know.


Chariot: The Eric Liddell Story
A Searchlight Theatre Production at the Oasis Centre, Bell Street, Princes Risborough on Thursday July 11th at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 each (family ticket £15 for 2 adults & 2 children from the same family). Tickets are available from Pat Kimber on 01844 273942.

Made famous by the award winning film ‘Chariots of Fire’, this new dramatization brings to life on stage the incredibly inspiring story of Eric Liddell. Paris, 6th July 1924 – the night before he has been asked to run for his country on the Sunday, we see the struggles he overcomes to stay true to his principles and what would await him once the Games were over.
