Sunday 23rd June 2013

Fourth Sunday after Trinity

Let us come together to worship, encouraged that we serve a God who brings light into even the darkest of places.

10.00am Parish Eucharist (God in the life of… Rose Williams)

Hymns: 58 (part 2 & doxology), 16, 695
Psalm: 22 v 23-end
Communion: 412, 374, 927

First Reading    Isaiah 65 v 1-9
Many Jews questioned whether God was justified in punishing them so harshly: allowing their country to be defeated and their people taken into exile. In our reading, God gives his response.

Second Reading     Galatians 3 v 23-end
Paul explains that the Jewish Law had a temporary role that ended with Christ’s coming. It brought awareness of sin, but not freedom from it; only Christ’s death could do that.

Gospel    Luke 8 v 26-39
Jesus has just crossed over the stormy Sea of Galilee into Gentile territory so that he can help one very troubled man.

6.00pm Owlswick Choral Evensong
Readings: Genesis 24 v 1-27, Mark 5 v 21-end
Hymns: 378, 417, 357, 463
Psalm: 71 v1-8

Prayer for the Week
Lord God, whose compassion embrasses all peoples, whose law is wisdom, freedom, and joy for the poor; fulfil in our midst your promise of favour, that we may receive the gospel of salvation with faith and, anointed by the Spirit, freely proclaim it. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  •  The people and politicians of Brazil as they work to resolve the unrest in their country
  •  those organising or visiting Bucks Arts Week, the archaeological dig and/or the Flower Festival
  •  Those finishing exams or university, moving on to the next stage of their education or looking for a job
  •  for the victims of disasters directly attributable to global warming and for the cancer sufferers as a result of  the reduction of the ozone layer
  •  those who live in Wycombe Road (PR) and Lee Road (Sa)
  •  those in need who are known in our parish:
  •   and also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Richard Irvine, Alastair, Marion Mullens, David Holding
  •  The recently departed: Molly Whyte, Jean Pritchard, Jan Neelands
  •  Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time
    • Richard Millard, Dorothy Lockwood

Please remember the charities that the parish supports, in particular this week:
Cruse Bereavement Care, supporting bereaved people and enabling anyone bereaved by death to understand their grief and cope with their loss. The organisation provides support and offers information, advice, education and training services.
