All Saints Sunday

Today, All Saint’s Day, we remember those who have gone before us, known and unknown to us and we remind ourselves of their example.  May we be that good memory for others who come after us, too. Let’s worship together as those who have heard, seen and known, and open our hearts to be Christ’s blessing in the world in the Spirit’s power.

First Reading                Revelation 7:9-17

This is the people of God:  all their sadness and fears met and filled with the hope of God’s reign.
Second Reading           1 John 3:1-3

God’s love holds us as children until hope is revealed and our lives are transformed.
Gospel Reading            Matthew 5: 1-12

The depths of poverty, pain and weakness may have broken our heart, but hope and God’s kingdom change everything.

3.00pm   A Time To Remember – All Souls

Reading:  Matthew 5.1-12a

Hymns: 379, 144, 413, 437, 428

Anthem: Lead me, Lord S.S. Wesley

Prayer for the week

All Holy God, you call your people to holiness.  As we keep the festival of your saints, give us their meekness and poverty of spirit, a thirst for righteousness and purity of heart. May we share with them the richness of your kingdom and be clothed in the glory you bestow. Grant this through our Lord, Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • peace throughout our world, particularly for peace in those countries which are making a transition from absolute power to democracy, from oppression to liberation
  • all who have died in the Turkish earthquake and for those who have been left behind in sorrow, facing the absence of loved ones and homes
  • those threatened by further flooding in Thailand
  • a successful and peaceful resolution to the protests affecting St. Paul’s Cathedral
  • That we will always know the value of our food and drink and may always give thanks for our daily bread
  • Local trades people: builders, plumbers, electricians.
  • Residents of Thorns Lane and Close (MR), Ilmer and the surrounding area
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
    • Gordon Haynes; Christine; Deborah Ryley; Joan Male; Richard Irvine; Emma, Matt and Olivia; Sarah and Matt; Sally Maddox, Dewis Smith
  • For the recently departed:
    •
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time particularly:

The 17th Sunday after Trinity

We live in a world which often fails to acknowledge God; a world which can, at times, be hostile to faith.  Let us come together today to seek God’s strength so we can stand firm.  For, through Jesus God knows exactly what it’s like to live in a hostile world.

We can provide some tools but if you can bring any yourself that would be extremely helpful. You’re also welcome to bring some plastic bags if you would like to make your own leaf mulch. James

Prayer for the week

Yours, O God, is the vineyard and its harvest, you’re the kingdom of justice and peace. You call your people to tend its growth. Bless the work entrusted to our hand, that we may offer you an abundance of just works, a rich harvest of peace. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:
  • Food manufacturing for the convenience and choice that it gives us.
  • Those who work in agriculture
  • For an end to the violence in Libya, Syria, Afghanistan and other parts of the world
  • Revd Jennifer Locke as she prepares to be licensed as the next vicar of Bledlow, Saunderton and Horsenden
  • Residents of Askett, Askett Lane and Letterbox Lane (MR), Angood Close and Ash Road (PR)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
  • ◦ Gordon Haynes; Christine; Deborah Ryley; Joan Male; Richard Irvine; Emma, Matt and Olivia; Sarah and Matt; Lauren, Richard Farrelly, Sally Maddox, Peter Donald
    • For the recently departed:
    • ◦ Edith Newman
    • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time particularly:
    • ◦ Brian Frow, Carla Holland, Winifred Eggleton

Please remember the charities that St Dunstan's supports, in particular this week:
Rope (Relief for Oppressed People Everywhere), combating oppressive poverty across the world and striving to change the lives of the poor.
