Today we remember that Jesus is our Good Shepherd and that his love for us is so great that he was prepared to lay down his life for us. So let us come together and celebrate this astonishing love.

First Reading   Acts 4:5-12
Peter and John had been arrested by the Sadducees for preaching about the resurrection of the dead. They were thrown into prison overnight, awaiting questioning the next day by the court of the Sanhedrin.

Second reading   1 John 3:16-24
The author has been admonishing Christians to love one another and goes on to expand upon this teaching by talking about the incredible love Jesus has shown them.

Gospel   John 10:11-18
Jesus continues his teaching in which he compares himself to a good shepherd and emphasises how much he cares for his flock.

 Prayer for the week
God of everlasting love, fulfil your plan of salvation to gather into one fold the peoples of the whole world. Let everyone on earth recognise your Christ as the Good Shepherd, who freely lays down his life for all to take it up again in power. Grant this through Jesus Christ, the resurrection and the life, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Annual Meetings – April 27th: 7.30 for 8pm:
Drinks will be served from 7.30 pm. Mr Tom Baskerville, the new Headteacher of Monks Risborough School, will be speaking briefly early on in the meetings as a way of introducing himself and outlining the vision/values of the school. The Agenda and information packs can be found on the website www.stdunstanschurch.com and a limited number of printed copies which also include the accounts are available in church

Intercessions Workshop – May 6th 10:30-12 noon
Aimed at anyone interested in prayer, leading the prayers in church and existing intercessors, there will be a workshop in church, starting with coffee and cake. If you would like to come along, please speak with Rob or James. The workshop will be held in the church.

National Day of Remembrance, Friday May 8th
To mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day there will be a short service and time of remembrance at the War Memorial, Mill Lane, Monks Risborough at 2.50 pm. This will include a National 2 minute silence at 3pm followed by the ringing of the church bells

Churchyard Spring Working Party, Saturday 9th May   

Can you spare a little time in the morning between 9.30 am and 12noon.  The churchyard is looking fantastic and  the wild meadow is coming along nicely but both would really benefit from a little attention in preparation for the summer to make the most of it.  Please bring light gardening tools if you can. Patronal Festival Barbeque, Sunday 17th May
Our Patronal Festival Barbeque this year will be held on Sunday 17th May 2015 starting at 1230 pm, after the morning service which will start at 1100 am on this day.
Tickets are available from Jane or Keith Gibbons (01844 344113) priced at £7=00 for adults and £3=00 for the first child in each family aged between 5 and 18 years old (other children free). Please let us know when buying tickets whether anyone has special dietary requirements. As always the success of this event depends on your generous donations of salads and desserts. Will anyone who is prepared to donate a salad and/or dessert please sign the list on the porch notice board. On the day will you please bring your own chairs. Thank you.

Book your place – Westminster Abbey
Once again I have managed to make special arrangements for a ‘pilgrim’s tour’ of Westminster Abbey on Wednesday July 15th. We will meet in the ‘lay-by’ in Monks Risborough at 3:30 pm to travel up to London by coach to arrive at the Abbey as it closes to the general public. There should be time before the tour starts at 6 pm to wander around the west end of the Abbey and to make use of the toilets. We will join a Canon Steward for a ‘pilgrim’s tour’ which will take us around the Abbey hearing about its history and praying in its sacred places that are not always open to the public. The usual price for a group tour is £17 per person but these special arrangements enable us to charge just £15 per person (children £7.50) including the cost of the coach. We hope to return to Monks Risborough at about 9:00 pm and you may want to bring a ‘snack’ with you. Book your place - A Day Trip to Canterbury
This years’ visit to a cathedral city will be on Wednesday August 5th to Canterbury. Canterbury is an historic city which is very easy to explore on foot. There is a guided tour of the magnificent cathedral included as part of the price of the trip, as well as the opportunity to enjoy Choral Evensong at 5.30 pm. During the afternoon you may wish to visit other historic sites in the city, take a punt or boat trip down the River Stour, go on a guided walking tour or just relax in one of the numerous cafes or eating places that Canterbury offers. The coach will leave the lay-by in Monks Risborough at 8:30 am and return there at approximately 9.00 pm. Please bring a picnic lunch and tea or enjoy the refreshments within the city. The cost of the trip is £30 (children £15) with cheques payable to Monks Risborough PCC. Everyone along with their family and friends is welcome. God of all prophets, you fulfilled your promise of old that your Christ would suffer and so rise to glory. We ask this through Jesus Christ, the first-born from the dead, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

The Friendship Group, Wednesday 15th April
We meet in the church hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 2.30 pm. The next meeting is Wednesday 15th April.  All welcome!

‘Open House’, Thursday April 23rd at 8pm at the Rectory
Under the umbrella of “The Jesus lifestyle” we shall continue to look at a DVD about the radical teaching found in the Sermon on the Mount and apply it to the 21st century. The DVD last approximately 35 minutes and leaves plenty of time for discussion at the end. Everyone is welcome. James

Vacancies on the PCC and Deanery Synod
There will be two vacancies on the church council (PCC) and one on the Deanery Synod that need to be filled at the Annual Meetings on Monday April 27th. If you are interested in the decision making process and day to day running of St. Dunstan’s or St. Peter’s, have an interest in the wider workings of the Church and you have been on the electoral roll for six months, please let James know. The PCC meets nine times a year on Monday evening and the Deanery Synod three times per year.

The next St. Dunstan's Fellowship will be a talk by Pamela Rye on “Waddesden & The Rothschilds” on Thursday 9th April at the Church Hall, 8pm. Husbands and friends are welcome! “Knit-ins” will be in the Church Hall on the 4th Thursday of each month (April 23rd) starting at 2.00pm. The next walk is on Tuesday 28th April – please meet in the layby at 9.15am.
