Sunday 26th April 2015

Fourth Sunday of Easter

Today we remember that Jesus is our Good Shepherd and that his love for us is so great that he was prepared to lay down his life for us. So let us come together and celebrate this astonishing love.

10.00am Parish Eucharist

Hymns: 241, 531, 16
Psalm: 23
Communion: 156, 652, 930
Anthem: A Clare Benediction by John Rutter

First Reading   Acts 4:5-12
Peter and John had been arrested by the Sadducees for preaching about the resurrection of the dead. They were thrown into prison overnight, awaiting questioning the next day by the court of the Sanhedrin.

Second reading   1 John 3:16-24
The author has been admonishing Christians to love one another and goes on to expand upon this teaching by talking about the incredible love Jesus has shown them.

Gospel   John 10:11-18
Jesus continues his teaching in which he compares himself to a good shepherd and emphasises how much he cares for his flock.

6.00pm Owlswick Choral Evensong

Readings: Exodus 16 v 4-15, Revelation 2 v 12-17
Hymns: 362, 296, 292, 353
Psalm: 81: 1-11

 Prayer for the week
God of everlasting love, fulfil your plan of salvation to gather into one fold the peoples of the whole world. Let everyone on earth recognise your Christ as the Good Shepherd, who freely lays down his life for all to take it up again in power. Grant this through Jesus Christ, the resurrection and the life, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Book your place – Westminster Abbey
Once again I have managed to make special arrangements for a ‘pilgrim’s tour’ of Westminster Abbey on Wednesday July 15th. We will meet in the ‘lay-by’ in Monks Risborough at 3:30 pm to travel up to London by coach to arrive at the Abbey as it closes to the general public. There should be time before the tour starts at 6 pm to wander around the west end of the Abbey and to make use of the toilets. We will join a Canon Steward for a ‘pilgrim’s tour’ which will take us around the Abbey hearing about its history and praying in its sacred places that are not always open to the public. The usual price for a group tour is £17 per person but these special arrangements enable us to charge just £15 per person (children £7.50) including the cost of the coach. We hope to return to Monks Risborough at about 9:00 pm and you may want to bring a ‘snack’ with you. To book a place please contact James and send your money with cheques payable to ‘Monks Risborough PCC’ to the Rectory, Mill Lane, Monks Risborough, HP27 9JE
