Sunday 18th September
Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity

We come to worship, to bring our prayers and thanksgiving to the one who blesses us beyond our desires or deserts, and calls us. This is our God! Let us worship Him.

10.00am Parish Communion
Hymns: 372, 366, 689
Psalm: 79 v1-9
Prayers: 927
Communion: 362, 374
Anthem: If ye love me, T. Tallis

First Reading Jeremiah 8:18 – 9:1
Jeremiah’s voice blends with that of God’s people in an outpouring of sadness at their sense of abandonment by God. Yet their God laments with them at their faithlessness. There are not tears enough for this desolation.

Second Reading 1 Timothy 2:1-7
Paul reminds us that our first priority should be prayer for everyone, in accordance with God’s longing for all to come into relationship through Christ.

Gospel Luke 16:1-13
Telling the story of the shrewd/prudent/dishonest manager, Jesus reminds us that how we handle money is significant in this world, as a reflection of our overall integrity – or lack of it. But it cannot come with us to heaven, so we must recognise its limits and use it for others, not selfishly.

5.00pm Confirmation Service at St. Mary’s, Wendover

6.00pm Evensong

Hymns: 484, Psalm 128, 487, 537
