Prayer for the Week

God of the prophets, in every age you send the work of truth, familiar yet new, a sign of contradiction.  Let us now be counted among those who lack faith, but give us the vision to see Christ in our midst and to welcome your saving word.  Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Are you a night owl?
St. Dunstan’s needs to provide security cover for Lighthouse overnight on Sunday July 22nd from 10.30 pm to 7.30 am the following morning. The brief is to keep an eye on the marquee and the other equipment on site. Please can you let James know if you can help out.

Trip to Gloucester August 8th

We shall have a tour of the cathedral, with the opportunity of a canal trip and attending Evensong.  The price will be approx £22.  Let me know if you’d like to come.  Rosemary 344417

Bucks County Show 30th Aug – Rest/Quiet Tent

The deanery would like to provide a marquee to provide a welcome, free refreshments and conversation.  Volunteers are needed to help in the tent, and distribute leaflets around the showground to publicise the space.  Please contact Revd Andrew Blyth, Area Dean of Aylesbury for more information on 01296 394906

Flower Festival 2013 – ‘Saints Preserve us’!
The revised date for this is June 28th to July 1st. This will be a fantastic celebration of floral displays depicting the history of the saints down the ages. More details to follow with plenty of opportunities for volunteers to help.

Birth of John the Baptist

Let us praise God together as we celebrate the birth of John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus Christ the Messiah.

Paul, speaking in the synagogue at Antioch in Pisidia, reviews the history of Israel’s relationship to God, concluding with John the Baptist, the immediate forerunner of Jesus the Saviour.

Paul shows how baptism into Jesus Christ brings unity between Jews and Gentiles.

Almighty God, by whose providence your servant John the Baptist         was wonderfully born, and sent to prepare the way of your Son our Saviour by the preaching of repentance: lead us to repent according to his preaching and, after his example, constantly to speak the truth, boldly to rebuke vice, and patiently to suffer for the truth’s sake; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Special Evensong at St. Peter’s, Owlswick, Tonight
We welcome back Karl and Almuth who are visiting this country from Germany. Last Advent they performed some pieces as part of the morning service at St. Dunstan’s. At evensong tonight at St. Peter’s, Owlswick they will sing ‘By thee with bliss’ from Haydn’s creation; Psalm 23 by Howard Goodall (the vicar of Dibley theme); ‘This is the day of God ‘ by Mendelssohn and a piece by Johann Eccard about John the Baptist. We hope you will be able to come along to enjoy these delightful musical additions to the usual Evensong service.

Monday June 25th ‘open house’, @ the Rectory
The next meeting will take place on Monday June 25th at 8 pm at the Rectory at the top of Mill Lane. This informal group provides a space to encourage people in their faith through friendship and to look at topical issues. Please do come along or contact James for further details.

Risborough Town Festival has an urgent need for 4 pairs of volunteers to ‘man’ road closures on Saturday 14th July: 1 pair to 'man' the road closure near Radhuni in Church Street between 2:00 and 4:00 PM; 1 pair to 'man' the road closure in Duke Street near the Tesco roundabout between 2:00 and 4:00 PM; 1 pair to 'man' the road closure near Radhuni in Church Street between 4:00 and 6:00 PM; 1 pair to 'man' the road closure in Duke Street near the Tesco roundabout between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. “Art at St Dunstans” 15-24th June
Thank you for having us back for Bucks Open Studios once again.  This year Art at St Dunstan's includes some old favourites (paintings and drawings, Shaker boxes and silver jewellery), alongside new and exciting ceramics, mosaics and woodturning.  The show runs until Sunday 24th June.  We look forward to welcoming old friends as well as new visitors and extend our invitation to each and every one of you.  If you have family or friends with an interest in art, please bring them along too.  The cream teas offered on Saturday and Sunday afternoon by the ladies of the parish make a weekend visit particularly scrumptious!  Christine Bass – co-ordinator

One of the people I visit would greatly appreciate being taken out in a wheelchair to give her a change of scenery. If you feel you may be able to help out in this way, please let me know. James

Lighthouse Chairman’s Job Description
The present chairperson is serving her final year before standing down. The committee are hoping that someone from one of the local churches will come forward to fill the position. The full job description can be found on the notice board in the porch but I am sure that anyone who is interested in becoming more involved in the work of Lighthouse will be most welcome and the job tailored to suit that particular person’s time, skills and gifts. Amidst life’s troubles, Paul encourages Christians to set their hopes on their eternal heavenly home: God, who raised Jesus from the dead, will raise his people into his glorious presence.

O God, the strength of all those who put their trust in you,
mercifully accept our prayers, and because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without you, grant us the help of your grace, that in the keeping of your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

Small group BIG QUESTIONS, Fridays in June
Running for four weeks from Friday June 8th from 10 -11.30 am, everyone is welcome to come along to The Rectory at the top of Mill Lane to explore questions of faith and other aspects of Christianity. “Art at St Dunstans” 15-24th June
Thank you for having us back for Bucks Open Studios once again.  This year Art at St Dunstan's includes some old favourites (paintings and drawings, Shaker boxes and silver jewellery), alongside new and exciting ceramics, mosaics and woodturning.  The show runs from the Launch evening on Friday 15th June until Sunday 24th June.  Full details are in the flyers at the back of the church.  We look forward to welcoming old friends as well as new visitors and extend our invitation to each and every one of you.  If you have family or friends with an interest in art, please bring them along too.  The cream teas offered on Saturday and Sunday afternoon by the ladies of the parish make a weekend visit particularly scrumptious!  Christine Bass – co-ordinator

Don’t miss the next Fundraising Event, which is on Friday 22th June, starting at 12 noon in The Oasis Centre, 9 Bell Street, Princes Risborough, HP27 0DE. Monday June 25th ‘open house’, @ the Rectory
The next meeting will take place on Monday June 25th at 8 pm at the Rectory at the top of Mill Lane. This informal group provides a space to encourage people in their faith through friendship and to look at topical issues. Please do come along or contact James for further details.
             
Lighthouse Chairman’s Job Description
The present chairperson is serving her final year before standing down. The committee are hoping that someone from one of the local churches will come forward to fill the position. The full job description can be found below but I am sure that anyone who is interested in becoming more involved in the work of Lighthouse will be most welcome and the job tailored to suit that particular person’s time, skills and gifts. Chair committee meetings on a regular basis throughout the year. Attend CTR meeting to update on progress/previous year. Oversee writing of Newsletters (2-3 per year) usually by Vice-Chair. Overseeing role in relation to child protection and risk management
September: Chair AGM

November: Chair Budget meeting for following year

January: Contact Age Group Leaders and Co-ordinators of all activities to see if they will co-ordinate again. Contact Wycombe Youth for Christ re theme for the year

February-April: Ensure Admin have all they need to undertake Helpers & Children’s admin

May: Contact local schools re visits by Main stage team. Organise flyers to be taken to schools for distribution to children

June: Prepare Helpers Handbook. Ensure all Co-ordinators have necessary equipment: AGL’s: pens, pencils, workbooks: Sports: sports equipment to be borrowed: Site & Craft: order to be placed for consumables

July:
Ensure Co-ordinators have online access to sort/contact their helpers. Run Briefing sessions. Ensure a Co-ordinator for each activity attends each Briefing session. Liaise with CTR re Commissioning Service & ‘Thought for the day’

Lighthouse Week
  • Be on site during the week to deal with any problems arising
  • Ensure all Co-ordinators and Helpers are happy!
  • Issue Co-ordinators with ‘Helper appraisal forms’
  • Be visible to parents & available for their queries/complaints
  • Run morning briefing & afternoon debriefing sessions
  • Liaise with local newspapers

June 8th ‘Stage Plus’
At 7.00pm the Stage Plus School of Performing Arts will be singing in St. Dunstan’s. Tickets are £5.00 for 12-65 year olds. Others are £2.50. There will be refreshments.
