Sunday 10th June 2012

First Sunday after Trinity

We gather together as God’s people made alive in Christ Jesus.  Let us worship with grateful heats, allowing the Spirit to renew us on our journey towards our glorious heavenly home.

10.00 am   Parish Eucharist – Addington Setting

Hymns: 314, 470, 238
Psalm: 138
Communion hymns: 69, 347, 949

First Reading                Genesis: 3:8-15
The man and woman hide from God, who realises what they must have done.

Second Reading           2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1
Amidst life’s troubles, Paul encourages Christians to set their hopes on their eternal heavenly home: God, who raised Jesus from the dead, will raise his people into his glorious presence.

Gospel Reading             Mark 3:20 - end
Jesus refutes both his family’s desire to take him in hand and the religious authorities’ accusations that he is demon-possessed.  Those who attribute Jesus’ healing power to Satan rather than the Holy Spirit are rejecting God’s kingdom.

11.30 am           Owlswick Holy Communion (BCP)

Readings:  Genesis: 3:8-15; Mark 3:20 - end

6.00pm             Choral Evensong
Readings: Isaiah 42: 5-12, Acts 14: 8-end
Hymns:   281, Psalm 1, 606, 208

Prayer for the Week
O God, the strength of all those who put their trust in you,
mercifully accept our prayers, and because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without you, grant us the help of your grace, that in the keeping of your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • the people of Syria, in the face of further appalling violence in that country
  • the leaders of the European nations, as they continue to find a solution to the economic crisis
  • Those affected by the Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in Edinburgh
  • The Anglican Church in Burma
  • The production of industrial goods, heavy duty and highly skilled engineering products.
  • Local and regional Health Authorities.  Community Health Councils.  Hospital managers.
  • Residents of Shortborough Ave (PR),  Cross Lane (B)  & Turnip End (Sp)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
    • Gordon Haynes; Joan Male; Richard Irvine; Sally Maddox; Sarah, Matt and Riley; Emma, Matt and Olivia
  • The recently departed:
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time particularly:
    • Peter Anthony Lane, Gordon Marr, Joan Downes, Bob Boyce, Winifred Baily

Please remember the charities that St Dunstan's supports, in particular this week:
The Church Housing Trust, dedicated to the rehabilitation and resettlement of homeless people of all ages and backgrounds.
