Sunday 15th March

Third Sunday of Lent

In Jesus, the living water, God gives us an opportunity for spiritual cleansing. Let us be mindful of this in our worship today, praying for refreshment and revival in faith.

10.00am Parish Communion

First Reading: Exodus 17.1-7
God meets the material needs of the people of Israel, wandering in the desert, by the miracle at the rock, and is revealed as the source of life – the one in whom thirst is quenched.

Second Reading: Romans 5.1-11
Paul contrasts human weakness and ungodliness with the grace and love of God that are shown in the reconciling death of Christ.

Gospel: John 4.5-42
Jesus’ encounter with a woman at a well leads to his revelation of himself as the Messiah, as “living water” and the “Saviour of the world”.

Hymns: 205, 52, 343, 252.
Communion: 45, 342, 978.

6.00pm Evensong
First Reading: Joshua 1.1-9
Second Reading: Ephesians 6.10-20
Hymns; 606, 222, 98 : Psalm 40.

Prayer of the week:
O God, living and true, look upon your people, whose dry and stony hearts are parched with thirst. Unseal the living water of your Spirit, let it become within us as an ever-flowing spring, leaping up to eternal life. Thus may we worship you in spirit and in truth through Jesus Christ, our deliverance and hope, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, holy and mighty God forever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • Migrants and refugees seeking a safer and better place to live.
  • Victims of climate related disasters such as tornadoes in the USA, floods in the UK, Australia and Brazil, drought in the Yemen and melting ice in Greenland, Antarctica and the Arctic.

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for the life of St Dunstan’s over many centuries: for its worship, its ministry and its mission
within and to the local community.
We thank you for the privilege of being members of the Church today.
During this Vacancy, strengthen us with your Holy Spirit, that our worship may be more worthy,
our witness more effective, our lives more holy,
and renew our enthusiasm to share all that you call us to be and do for the honour of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Notices

Coronavirus – Archbishop and Diocesan Advice.

"We advise that all priests should offer Communion in one kind only to all communicants i.e. the consecrated bread/wafer/host, with the priest alone taking the wine; suspend handshaking or other direct physical contact during the sharing of the peace; suspend direct physical contact as part of a blessing or ‘laying on of hands’."  Please note that it is the teaching of the Church, that receiving the host only still means that we receive the fullness of Christ at Holy Communion.

If you are able to provide lifts to and from church on a regular or occasional basis please contact Cathy Farquhar 343226 cathy.farquhar@btinternet.com

Looking ahead during the Vacancy
Before Christmas about 40 people attended a day called "Better Together" which was the opportunity to express how they were feeling about James' departure.
I am planning another two sessions called "Better Together Again!" These will be an opportunity to think about the Vacancy, but especially to look ahead to the future.  As part of the process of appointing a new Team Vicar, the PCC will need to approve a Parish Profile which outlines what the parish is like now, what it means to be part of the Risborough Team, what we would like to be in the coming years and what qualities will be required in the priest appointed to help us. The sessions in the church hall will be similar and everyone is invited to attend one of them.  Wednesday 22nd April:10.30am - 12 noon or 7.30 - 9.00pm.  All of us who are members of the St Dunstan's Family share responsibility for the kind of Church we are and will be.  I hope therefore that as many people as possible will take part.  More information later, but please book the date and time in your diary now. Thank you.Rob

(Women's) World Day of Prayer
Very many thanks to those who attended from St D's and to those who did a reading. There was a better attendance this year and over £320 was raised for a wide variety of international charities. Rosemary.

Annual revision of Electoral Roll- closes 6th April
Forms are available at the back of the church for anyone wishing to join the parish electoral roll.  There was a complete revision last year and so you only need to apply if you did not complete a form last year.  Any queries Susanne Dodds 01844 342746 or email  stdunstanspewsheet@gmail.com

Then on March 28th join us for a Christian Aid Big Brekkie, at 9.15am in the church hall. Egg/bacon/sausage /veggie baps with juice and tea or coffee. Suggested donation £5. We are advised that, during this outbreak, we should not shake hands during the Peace and that those who intinct the host in the wine, must allow the priest to do that on their behalf. Advice may change if the epidemic worsens.
