Prayer of the Week
God of constant mercy, who sent your Son to save us in our weakness: keep us mindful of your goodness, that, as your grace increases in us, our thankfulness may also grow, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • The victims of the earthquake in Italy
  • All those living or travelling as refugees
  • The holding of the Paralympic Games in Brazil
  • A fair and swift settlement regarding contracts for junior doctors
  • Landowners and their responsibility for the good management of the precious resource of land

Notices

 

A celebration of British music and words - TODAY
This informal concert will be held on Sunday 4th September at 3.00 pm at St Dunstan's. Contributors will be Margaret Pitman, Sarah Fairall, Rowena Gibbons plus a surprise guest.  There will be a great range of music from John Dowland through to Karl Jenkins; as well as words from William Shakespeare through to John Betjeman. Entry is free with a retiring collection in aid of The Blue Cross and St Dunstan's. Light refreshments will also be available.

Fellowship Talk by locally renowned art historian!

On September 8th at 8 pm in the church hall Susanne Carr will be investigating the paintings by Impressionist model and friend of Renoir, Suzanne Valadon (1865/7-1938). Everyone is welcome. The cost is £2 per meeting to include refreshments. “Knit-ins” will be in the Church Hall on the 4th Thursday of each month starting at 2.00pm (next one September 22nd) and the next walk is on Tuesday 27th September – please meet in layby at 9.15am. All welcome.

Help is needed in many areas
  • Please sign up on the list in the porch in one or more spaces if you can set up, serve or help clear up the refreshments and/or provide a cake(s).
  • High quality raffle prizes (Pat Kimber 273942) e.g. fine wine, gift vouchers or luxury box of chocolates can be left in the box in the church as can bottles e.g. squash, sauce, bubble bath, wine etc. for the bottle stall (Gwen Miles 345230).
  • Books are also required for the book stall being run by Morna Hinch (345169)
  • Home grown produce, jams, cakes of all sizes needed for the "Cake Stall". Please contact

  • Delivering flyers by putting your name next to the street(s) you wish to deliver to and taking some flyers from the table near the south door.
Sponsored 'Ride and Stride' September 10th 10.00am - 6.00pm: participants and helpers required
You can ride a bike, a horse or walk for Bucks Historic Churches Trust/St Dunstan's and St Peter's. Sponsor forms are on the table at the back. We shall also need some folk to sit in the porch and welcome those taking part by offering drinks and noting their arrival time. Open House at the Rectory – The Pilgrim Course
This course is open to everyone for a single session or the whole course. On Monday September 19th at 8 pm we shall begin looking at The Lord’s Prayer. James

The Friendship Group
We meet in the church hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 2.30 pm. The next meeting is Wednesday 21st September. All welcome

Help required - clippings, weeding and cuttings


On September 24th from 9:00 -11:00am help is required in the churchyard extension to collect the grass that has been scythed and to carry out some weeding. Please come along if you can for a couple of hours (with any tools if you have them) to help out. Mick White (346536)

Harvest Time
  • Services are taking place at St. Peter’s Chapel Owlswick on Sunday September 25th at 6 pm and at St. Dunstan’s, Monks Risborough on Sunday October 2nd at 11.00 am.
  • Harvest Festival Lunch will be held in the Scout Hall in Courtmoor Close, Monks Risborough at 12:30pm. Tickets are available from Rachel Ungi (01844 761535) or Susanne Carr (01844 346827): adults £6, children 18 or under £2.
  • The Whitechapel Mission provides hot food and a drink, showers, clothing, free toilets and the chance of a wash and brush-up to homeless people in London. As in previous years we are delighted to accept your donations for the work of the Whitechapel Mission at or before the Harvest services. Please log on to their website www.whitechapel.org.uk, click on ‘donate’ and scroll down to ‘donate gifts in kind’ for a list of the things most desperately needed. A list of items can also be found in the porch. Thank you in anticipation of your help.
St. Albans Cathedral Pilgrimage
Owing to popular demand there will be a second pilgrim tour of St. Albans Abbey on Wednesday September 28th. The coach will leave from the lay-by off the A4010 in Monks Risborough at 5.30 pm and return there at about 10.15pm. Full details can be found in the August/September edition of the newsletter. The last chance for booking is September 4th

Big Band Swing on Saturday October 15th at 7.30 pm
This is a great opportunity to listen to much loved music and great tracks by Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra etc. that encourages audience participation! There is a complimentary glass of wine/soft drink and a prize raffle. Tickets are £10 from Rachel Ungi (01844 761535) or Susanne Carr (01844 346827)

Free entry to Westminster Abbey – worth up to £80!
I have again secured a pass to enable up to four people to visit the Abbey free of charge. If you have visitors over the summer period or wish to enjoy a visit yourself please let me know and you can make use of this pass. James
