Sunday 19th July 2015
Seventh Sunday after Trinity
"God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you." St. Augustine
Hymns: 97, 649, 19
Psalm: 89 vs 20-30
Communion: 434, 422, 930
First Reading 2 Samuel 7 v 1-14a
God denies David’s request to build God a house. Instead God will raise up a dynasty, a “house of David”; so the hope of the Messiah is born.
Second Reading Ephesians 2 v 11-end
The crucifixion of Jesus makes possible the uniting of a divided humanity; this unity in Christ is evidence of God’s presence among all his peoples.
Gospel Mark 6 v 30-34 & 53-end
The crowds prevent Jesus from finding the time alone with his disciples, whilst his compassion ensures that, wherever he is, no one is ever turned away.
4.30pm Cream Teas at Owlswick
6.00pm Owlswick Songs of Praise
Hymns: 332, 541, 6 (vs 1-4 & 7), 178 (vs 1, 3, 5, 7, & 8), 413 & 32
Prayer for the week
Compassionate God, from far and near you gather your Church into one. Safeguard the unity of your flock through the teaching of Christ the Shepherd, that all your scattered children may find in him, the guidance and nourishment they seek. We make this prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen
Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:
- The people of Iraq and Syria, and for all those parts of the world suffering from conflict and violence that ways of peace and justice may prevail
- All the peoples of the Middle East that the agreement over nuclear development with Iran may lead to a time of mutual trust, respect and reconciliation
- Those who have lost jobs and also where skills have been made useless as a result of the introduction of new technologies
- Cooperation in mission, outreach and witness as Churches Together in Risborough. Sufficient leaders and helpers at this year’s Lighthouse Holiday Week.
- Old Manor Close & Orchard Place (MR) Elm Road & Elmdale Gardens (PR)
- Those who are in need in our parish:
- And also further afield for:
- Joan Male, Bill Male, Alastair, Uncle Frank, Katy, Georgina Cole, Jane, Dave Skinner
- The recently departed: Gill
- Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
- Ernest Harris, Beryl Stannard, Sylvia Hall, David Sheppard, Christopher Bradley, Noel Bartlett, Christine Griggs

The restoration of the East Windows
This has been enormously successful with the windows being much more vivid in their colour and more importantly much more securely fixed so that there will be no danger of them falling out for at least another 60 years! Please do take a closer look at them so that you can really appreciate the difference. James
The Chandos Ensemble and Cream Teas
Thank you to everyone who helped to make this such an enjoyable afternoon. The music was delightful and the seamless serving of the cream teas a marvel to behold. One of the strengths of the church is its hospitality and this came across in a number of different ways. Around £900 was raised towards the cost of the restoring the East Windows (the total cost of this project is about £9,000). James
The Friendship Group
We meet in the church hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 2.30 pm. The next meeting is Wednesday 19th August. All welcome!
Fellowship Group
“Knit-ins” will be in the Church Hall on the 4th Thursday of each month starting at 2.00pm. The next walk is on Tuesday 28th July, meeting in the lay-by at 9.15am – everyone is welcome. The next Thursday evening meeting will take place on 13th August. Please bring along a favourite poem or piece of prose to share. 8pm in the Church Hall. All are welcome to the Fellowship Group.
Lighthouse Holiday Week 27th July – 31st July
This takes place at Princes Risborough Top School. The theme is ‘The Armour of God’. Helpers are still needed as follows: to serve refreshments in the café; provide cakes for the café – lots are needed! First aiders to man the first aid tent; 5 Lighthouse Keepers (aged 16+) to look after a group of 20-25 children each. If you wish to volunteer as a helper, please register on the website: http://www.princesrisboroughlighthouse.co.uk/
Churchyard Work Party, 9.30am Saturday August 15th
Once again we will be meeting to ensure that we keep the churchyard and the extension looking its best. Apart from the regular pruning, cutting and sawing tools, if you have a stiff brush (but not wire) and/or a shovel, some lichen and moss growth needs to be removed from the stonework surrounding the church. We will probably also undertake some general weeding/tidying up in the churchyard extension ready for its consecration. All welcome and refreshments will be provided. James
Fun Day September 5th and Churchyard Consecration
Plans are beginning to take shape for this event which takes place from 2.00-4.30pm. There will be a whole variety of stalls and in due course a list for items required will be put up including cakes, home produce, good quality books, plants, bottles, tombola and raffle prizes, such as a fine wine, luxury box of chocolates, gift vouchers and crystal glass.
New Musical Setting for St. Dunstan’s
We have begun using the Trinity Mass Setting composed by David Thorne for the Parish Eucharist. For those who have internet access the setting can be listened to on http://www.culvermusic.com/trinity-mass.html. After you’ve had a chance to sing/listen to it several times I’d be very grateful for any comments. There are copies of the music available for those who would like to have one. James
One or two more grass cutters required
St. Dunstan’s has a proud tradition of maintaining the churchyard to a high standard. There are currently 16 people who voluntarily help to cut/strim the grass around the church grounds. If you would like to become part of this team you would be very welcome. There are four different mowers to choose from and you can be allocated a section of the churchyard to look after. Please let me know if you are interested. James.
Kop Hill Badminton Club
You are very welcome to join this family fun Badminton session. This takes place on Wednesdays 7-8pm in July before restarting in September at the new sports hall at Princes Risborough Top School. The cost is £3 per person with the option to mix and match games or play together. Please see or speak to Susanne Dodds (342746), Sue Ingram (275287) or just turn up if you’re interested.
