Prayer of the Week
Eternal God, in the psalms of David, in the words of the prophets, in the dream of Joseph your promise is spoken. At last, in the womb of the Virgin Mary, your Word takes flesh. Teach us to welcome Jesus, the promised Emmanuel, and to preach the good news of his coming, that every age may know him as the source of redemption and grace. Grant this through him, whose coming is certain, whose day draws near: your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked for:

  • The holding of the ceasefire in Aleppo and for the safe evacuation of those wishing to leave that city
  • Those caught up in the conflict and devastation in Yemen and for a generous response to the DEC appeal
  • Our spiritual and practical preparations for Christmas
  • Hearing dogs for deaf people
  • Peel Court (PR) Hampden Gate & Hampden Road (Sp)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
    • Joan Ballance, Pam Johnson, Richard Allwood
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Katy, Georgina Cole, Robert, Henry, Ginny Gibbs, Rob, David Dewick, Megan Bone
  • The recently departed: Pat Kimber
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time: Peter Hoar

Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
The Whitechapel Mission is dedicated to providing a lifeline to the men and women caught in the cycles of poverty, hopelessness and dependencies of many kinds, and to see their lives transformed to hope, joy and lasting productivity.                        www.whitechapel.org.uk

Chinnor Silver Band
Thank you to everyone who made this another hugely successful and enjoyable evening. The refreshments were delicious, a team of people came to move the pews/chairs before and afterwards, the ticket sales were slick and the music fabulous. Over £1650 has been raised by this event. James

Coffee and Mince Pies at the Rectory
As in the past everyone is invited for coffee and mince pies at The Rectory after the 10.00am Communion service on Sunday January 1st. Even if you don’t come to the service you are very welcome!

Exhibition of Masterpieces of English Medieval Embroidery
This is taking place at the Victoria and Albert Museum until February 5th. From the 12th to the 15th centuries, England enjoyed an international reputation for the quality of its luxury embroideries, often referred to as ‘Opus Anglicanum’ (English work). Made by professional craftspeople in the City of London and rich in their intricacy, they were sought after by kings, queens, popes and cardinals from across Europe. Paintings, illuminated manuscripts, metalwork and stained glass will be shown alongside rare surviving examples to explore the world within which these exquisite works were created. This exhibition is a rare opportunity to see an outstanding range of surviving examples in one place. Some of the embroideries have not been seen in Britain since they were produced. A number of people from the parish have already visited and said how outstanding and enjoyable this exhibition is.

Pat Kimber (RIP) – Service of Thanksgiving

This will take place at St. Dunstan’s following a private family cremation. The service at St. Dunstan’s is on Thursday January 5th at 12:45pm and refreshments will be provided by outside caterers owing to the large number of people expected at the service. Donations will be shared between Rennie Grove Hospice Care and St. Dunstan’s (Surman and Horwood are the funeral directors) with family flowers only. James.

Colds, coughs…
Polite reminder – so that we all stay as healthy as possible, if you have a cold etc. please ask the priest to dip your wafer into the communion cup (known as intinction) to reduce the risk of spreading germs. Thank you. James
