Prayer of the Week
O God, patient and forbearing, you alone know fully the goodness of what you have made. Strengthen our sprit when we are slow and temper our zeal when we are rash, that in your own good time you may produce in us a rich harvest from the seed you have sown and tended. We make this prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • The British government and European Union in its Brexit negotiations and legislation
  • An easing of tensions between Palestinians and Israelis in Jerusalem
  • The safety and wellbeing of children during the summer holidays
  • Children, teenagers and helpers at Lighthouse this week
  • Audio visual manufacturers for the new jobs and employment being created
  • Office workers and managers
  • Place Farm Way (MR) Hawthorn Road & The High Street (PR)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
    • Joan Ballance, Pam Johnson, Eddie Evans
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Katy, Georgina Cole, Ginny Gibbs, Rob, David Dewick, Alex Chauhan and Cathy Owen
  • The recently departed:
    • John Keane, Eileen Spittles
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Christine Griggs, Margaret Ashby

Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
Anorexia and Bulimia Care (ABC) is a national UK eating disorders organisation with over 25 years of experience www.anorexiabulimiacare.org.uk

Do you have 30 minutes to spare?
There is the opportunity to hold a lunchtime/after school club at Monks Risborough School starting in September. We need to create a team of volunteers to make this happen. If you enjoy working with children and enjoy playing games, making craft items, singing etc. please let James know. The exact time and date is still to be decided upon according to the availability of volunteers but Monday lunchtime is certainly one possibility.

Calling all Bakers!
Lighthouse Princes Risborough kicks off on Monday 24th July with Jenny Pearce from Speen heading up the refreshments team.  The Lighthouse Café runs from 24th-28th July serving parents and helpers with delicious homemade cakes, hot drinks and other goodies to keep energy levels up all week. Please can anyone who can help with baking for the Café contact Jenny, or just bring donations to the Café tent on Risborough Upper School playing field – cakes, cookies etc. all go down a treat!

Fellowship Group – open to everyone
The next walk will be on Tuesday 25th July, meeting in the A4010 lay-by at 9.15 am and the next ‘knit-in’ will be on Thurs 27th July at 2pm in the church hall. On Thursday 10th August, Judy Perry leads an introduction to lip-reading – ‘Let your eyes help your ears’ at 8.00pm in St. Dunstan’s Church Hall. Everyone is welcome to this meeting with a cost of £2 to include refreshments.

Silent Prayer Meeting – Monday July 31st
We need silence to help us to get a proper perspective on our lives; to hear the still, small voice of God, and to refresh our inner being. All are welcome to these meetings in the church hall of any faith or none. Each meeting lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. The meeting starts with some simple relaxation exercises, a short passage from the Bible to reflect upon in the half hour of silence, followed by a time of sharing of our experiences if people wish. For more information please contact James.

Sustaining your Sacred Centre
A programme of prayer for August 2017
Traditionally August is a month when things slow down a bit. Schools are closed; many families go on holiday; days are still long, and hopefully we all enjoy some warm weather.  So August is a good month to make a bit more time to just “be” with God. We both hope you will support and enjoy the variety of these services we are providing to help us all do that. James and Rob
Sunday Services at St. Dunstan’s will take place as usual. Morning Prayer will continue to be said from 8.45—9.05am on Mondays (except Bank Holiday), Wednesdays and Thursdays. In addition, during August, there will be:
‘Compline’ (Night Prayer) from 8.00—8.15pm on: Friday 4th, Friday 11th, Friday 18th and Friday 25th
‘Evening Prayer’ in a variety of formats will be said from 5.00 – 5.20 pm on: Saturday 5th, Saturday 12th, Saturday 19th and Saturday 26th
Sunday services at St Peter’s Owlswick will take place as usual. In addition, during August, there will be a ‘Service of Reflection’ with music, a few words on the theme of ‘living in hope’ each week and silence from 6.00—6.20pm on: Tuesday 1st, Tuesday 8th, Tuesday 15th, Tuesday 22nd and Tuesday 29th

‘Open House’ – The Ten Commandments
Over the next few months on a variety of evenings there will be an opportunity to take a fresh look at The Ten Commandments as part of the Pilgrim Course. The next meeting takes place from 8.00pm to 9.30pm at the Rectory on Wednesday August 23rd. It’s not compulsory to attend every evening as the course has been designed so that people can ‘dip in and out’ as they please. Please do chat to me if you’re not sure as to whether this might be suitable for you or simply come along on the evening. James

Festival of Prayer

The Festival of Prayer, now in its seventh year, aims to enhance your spiritual life by offering different approaches to Christian spirituality in a day-long conference. When: Saturday 9 September 2017, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm
Where: Ripon College, Cuddesdon, Oxford OX44 9EX
Cost: £30 per person. Coffee and tea will be provided throughout the day. Please bring your own lunch. Further details are on the leaflet on the table by the south door.

Confirmation
A Confirmation Service will be held at St. John’s Church Lacey Green on September 24th at 6pm. If you (or your son/daughter) would like to consider being confirmed please contact James before the end of August. Confirmation is traditionally seen as the entry point to receive Holy Communion as a person ‘confirms’ for themselves the promises made on their behalf at their Baptism. Preparation sessions will take place in early September. James
