Sunday 27th May

Trinity Sunday

In our Communion let us open our hearts afresh to God’s Spirit. As we take in gifts of bread and wine, may the gift of Jesus’ Spirit bring us to new birth. As we pray for the world, may our eyes be open to see the weave of the maker.

10.00am Parish Communion (Trinity Mass setting)

First Reading: Isaiah 6.1-8
Isaiah’s first courageous act was believing that he really saw the Lord; his second act was responding to the commission. From there he would never look back.

Second Reading: Romans 8.12-17
The life of faith is not for the faint-hearted. Paul warns against falling back into fear. The antidote is summoning the boldness to believe: “Abba! Father!”

Gospel: John 3.1-17
Head knowledge takes us a long way, but faith is mandatory for understanding heavenly things. The fullness of Jesus’ divine nature can only be received by faith, yet the Trinity makes rational sense of the interrelatedness of all creation.

Hymns: 37, 249, 238
Communion: 165, 533, 145
Psalm 29
Anthem: Song of Mary

6.00pm Owlswick Evensong
Readings: Ezekiel 1.4-10, 22-28a, Revelation 4
Hymns:  349, 146, 377, 466
Psalm 104.1-10

Prayer of the Week
God our Father, you have given us a share in the life that is yours with your Son and the Holy Spirit. Notices

Congregational Mailing
Stewardship letters are being given out today

Psalms
Following the Annual Meeting where comments were received about the difficulty of singing the psalm a few blue ‘psalters’ with the pointing (which tells you when you’re likely to change note) and in some copies the music are available for the congregation to use. These are kept with the copies of the hymn books.
