Prayer of the Week
Lord, giver of lasting life, satisfy our hunger through Christ, the bread of life, and quench our thirst with your gift of belief that we may no longer work for food that perishes, but believe in the One whom you have sent. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.
Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • People in this country and abroad struggling with the impact of the extreme temperatures
  • Peace, calm and a fair outcome following the election in Zimbabwe
  • The mission, ministry and congregational life of St. Mary and St. Nicholas Church, Saunderton.
  • Meadow Drive (L) Pink Road & Pinkwoods (LG)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
    • Joan Ballance, Pam Johnson, Pam Lidgley
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Georgina Cole, Ginny Gibbs, Alex Chauhan, Cathy Owen, Gail, Suzy Cooper, Anna Ballard, Janet Drurie
  • The recently departed: Jessie Carter
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:

Music, hymns, silence and singing during Communion
There is a diverse range of opinion as to how people prefer to receive Communion. Some people prefer there to be total silence, some prefer listening to quiet music from the organ and/or choir and others prefer to join in with the singing of hymns. All are natural expressions of our faith and there isn’t one size that fits all. I therefore try and take a balanced approach so that each element can be found within this special time and that people are able to ‘commune’ with God in a way that is most meaningful to them. James

Sustaining the Sacred Centre: Daily prayer in August
During the month of August we provide extra opportunities for us all to meet together for short services and times of reflection lasting about 20 minutes. August is a quieter month than most to create more time to simply ‘be’ with God in the silence of his presence by which our spiritual life is sustained and developed. Bookmarks are available from the table as a reminder of these services and full details of the services can be found in the parish newsletter. Copies of our parish prayer diary (laminated in yellow) that enables you to pray daily for a different aspect of parish life are also available from the table.
Monday 8.45am Morning Prayer (except Bank Holiday)
Tuesday 6.00pm ‘Service of Reflection’ (at St. Peter’s)
Wednesday 8.45am Morning Prayer
Thursday 8.45am Morning Prayer
Thursday 9.30am Holy Communion
Friday 8.00pm Compline (night prayer)
Saturday 5.00pm Evening prayer
Come Lord, occupy my silent place and make your dwelling there. More grace is found in quietness than we may beaware.

‘Open House’ – an opportunity to explore The Creeds
Over the next few months on a variety of evenings there will be an opportunity to take a fresh look at The Apostles and Nicene Creeds that form part of our worship on a Sundays. The next meeting takes place from 7.30pm to 9.00pm at the Rectory on Wednesday August 22nd. It’s not compulsory to attend every evening as the course has been designed so that people can ‘dip in and out’ as they please. Please do chat to me if you’re not sure as to whether this might be suitable for you or simply come along on the evening. James

Cleaner(s) required for St. Dunstan’s Church
With the impending ‘retirement’ of the existing two church cleaners there is a vacancy for either one or two people to share this role. The time commitment is about 1-2 hours per week and includes dusting, vacuuming, washing the floor, tidying, emptying bins etc. so that the church environment remains fresh and attractive to visitors. The duties of this role will normally be of a routine and planned nature but there will be a need to show some flexibility in working around services such as weddings, funerals and other social events. If you are interested in taking on this role for which a small payment can be made please speak with James
