Almighty God, You search us and know us: may we rely on you in strength and rest on you in weakness, now and in all our days through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

• world peace, that God will watch over those fighting or caught up in dangerous places
• all those with a disability; those taking part in the Paralympics; for hospitals and rehabilitation centres
• those affected by extreme weather conditions: hurricanes, flooding, fire and drought
• Garages, petrol stations, restaurants and other service industries
• The wise stewardship of the environment that our harvest for today may not destroy its goodness for tomorrow.

Notices

Monks Monkeys restarts – Thursday September 6th
Praise and play for the under fives plus parents/carers in the church hall during term time 2 pm to 3 pm. Each session will include ‘action’ songs, an interactive Bible story and short prayers. Also some time for the children to play, adults to chat and refreshments to be served. On the 4th Thursday of the month we meet in the Church for an additional special craft activity. No need to book, just turn up on the day. James

The Fete - September 8th 2.00-4.30
We need volunteers in four main categories: helping on a stall; helping with teas; making cakes /scones; helping to set up /clear away. Please sign the list in the porch if you would like to take part, or phone Rosemary 344417

September 8th ‘ride or stride’
‘Ride’ and ‘stride’ is an annual event where people can either cycle or walk to raise money for the restoration of historic churches and chapels including St. Dunstan’s, Monks Risborough and St. Peter’s, Owlswick. Silent Prayer Meeting, Monday September 10th, 8pm
“Silence is not as simple as absence of noise it is the creation of a space where God can be”. Please come along to a meeting in the church hall to encourage us to be still in the presence of God and in the company of others. James

Small group BIG QUESTIONS
Starting again on Friday September 14th and running weekly up to October 12th, EVERYONE is welcome to come along to The Rectory at the top of Mill Lane, Monks Risborough from 10.00 to 11.30 to explore questions of faith and other aspects of Christianity. Come with your doubts, your hopes and your questions. As part of an informal group we aim to answer those questions that we all struggle with from time to time. Each week will start with some refreshments followed by a DVD to stimulate discussion and a time for people to listen, ask questions and share their thoughts. Topics will include ‘Does God heal today’ and ‘what about the Church’. James

The Whitechapel Mission – Harvest Collection
As in previous years we are delighted to accept your donations for the work of the Whitechapel Mission at or before our Harvest services. These take place on Sunday September 23rd at 6 pm at Owlswick Chapel and on Sunday October 7th at 11 am at St. Dunstan’s. The Whitechapel Mission provides hot food and drink, showers, clothing, free toilets and the chance of a wash and brush-up to homeless people in London. To enable its work to continue please log on to their website www.whitechapelmission.org.uk, click on ‘donate’ and scroll down to ‘donations in kind’ for a list of the things most desperately needed. A message from the Archdeacon for your information

There has been a series of frauds committed in the Northampton and Milton Keynes areas over recent weeks using precisely the same method.
The offender targets church members, approaching people at or outside churches or church halls appearing upset and frantic for help.  He tells them that his mother has died that morning on the island of Jersey and that he is in desperate need of funds to get out there to identify the body and bring her home.
He explains that his mother was a member of their church and lived locally until recently. He quotes the details of several of the churches local ministers to add validity to his story but these people happen to be on holiday at the time so it appears that he has done some preparatory research.

He is described as follows –
White Male aged 30-35 years; 5’4” to 5’8” tall with a slim build; fair hair cut about ear length; last seen wearing a blue hoodie with white writing and dark jeans
This male is EXTREMELY plausible, cries when recalling memories of his mother, gives his name as ‘John WILLIAMS’ and passes a mobile phone number when asked.  He will even quote addresses that are local.

Please can details of this crime series be circulated among the Church community, encouraging any persons who come across this male to call 999 immediately?
