9th Sunday after Trinity

Jesus said,” I am the bread of life.” We gather in his name to strengthen our belief in him and to rejoice in his presence with us in this Eucharist.

First Reading                Exodus 16: 2-4, 9-15
The Israelites complain bitterly against the lack of food in the wilderness.  God promises to provide them with both bread and meat.

Jesus confounds the crown by telling them that by believing in him, they are doing the work of God.

Jesus is the bread of life.  As we share our worship, may we open our lives to the need around us, our eyes to Christ amongst us, and our hearts to God’s word.

Prayer for the Week

God our Father and provider, whose Son has given his flesh for the life of the world, sustain your pilgrim Church on its journey with the word of life and the bread of heaven.  Draw us nearer to him in whose name we gather, that, following his way of sacrificial love, we may come to the banquet of eternal life.  Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.  Amen.

  • Those who experience ill heath on holiday as the body seeks repair itself from the demands and pressures of everyday living.

Triple edition of the pew sheet
The next edition of the pew sheet will cover the Sundays of August 12th/19th and 26th. Space is therefore likely to be limited but hopefully we’ll be able advertise those events taking place in September.

 ‘Open house’, @ the Rectory, August 6th at 8 pm
This informal group provides a space to encourage people in their faith through friendship and to look at topical issues. A short DVD is shown at the beginning of the evening to start the discussions off. The meetings take place about monthly and people are welcome to come along as and when they please. The next meeting will be on Monday August 6th at 8 pm at the Rectory at the top of Mill Lane. No need to book, please just turn up or contact James for further details.

Gloucester Cathedral and Boat Trip: August 8th
The coach will be depart from the Stratton Rd car park (PR) at 8.30am or in the lay-by in Monks Risborough at 8.45.  Please arrive in plenty of time so that we can leave punctually.  Thank you, Rosemary 344417

Following a highly successful Spring concert, the musicians from the Royal College of Music are back by popular demand playing music by Haydn, Schubert and Frank Bridge. Flower Festival (June 28- July 1st 2013), help required
The planning team for this event is looking out for various individuals to take on the key roles of publicity/advertising; organising a team to provide refreshments throughout the weekend; running a raffle with a few, high quality prizes. If you are interested in volunteering or finding out more, please speak with James or Cathy Farquhar

Morning Prayer usually takes place on Mondays (except Bank Holidays), Wednesday and Thursday at 8.45 at St. Dunstan’s. However there will be no Morning Prayer on Wednesday August 8th, and from Monday August 13th until Monday August 27th (inclusive) because of the holiday period.
