Sunday 10th February 2013

Sunday Next Before Lent

We all have cause to rejoice today, no matter what our circumstances may be.  For, as Christians, we are taught that any suffering we endure pale into insignificance compared with the future glory that awaits us. So let us come together and praise our heavenly Father.

10.00 am Parish Eucharist
Hymns: 184, 494, 598
Psalm: 99
Communion: 472, 575, 927
Anthem: Light of the world.

First Reading                Exodus 34: 29-35
Moses has spent forty days and nights with God on Mount Sinai receiving the Law.  Now her returns to his people with God’s commandments

Second Reading                       2 Corinthians 3:12 – 4:2
Paul has been arguing that the new covenant brought in by Christ supersedes the old Mosaic one and that the ministry of the Spirit has greater glory than that of the Law.

Gospel Reading            Luke 9: 28- 36 [37 – 43a]
Jesus has been teaching his disciples that he must suffer, die and rise again.  Now some of them get a taste for the glory that will be Christ’s once his suffering is complete.

Volunteers required - Events Team

As a church we run a variety of events over the year such as concerts, a summer fete, and cream teas. We already receive lots of offers of help to sell tickets, provide refreshments and run stalls which is greatly appreciated. We now need other people to help co-ordinate one event or more, working with an existing team of helpers. Without any commitment, if you think you might be able to help in this area there will be a meeting at The Rectory on Friday February 15th at 8 pm for those who are interested in getting involved. James

New Pew Sheet Editor required
We need to find someone to take over the production of the pew sheet. It takes about an hour week and basic computer skills are necessary. If you are interested in taking on this important role please speak to Susanne Dodds or James.

This takes place in St Theresa’s Church this year.  We need one more person to do a reading. If you would like to be involved please see Rosemary.

Grass Cutting
Summer may seem a long way off but we need to find additional people to help cut the grass in the churchyard. There are various plot sizes that people can volunteer for. It is a very rewarding role and many comments are received about how lovely the churchyard looks. If you have a few hours to spare every other week during the growing season please speak with James.

Confirmation
Confirmation is traditionally seen as an entry point to receive Holy Communion and/or point in which a person wishes to affirm their faith publicly.
