Prayer for the Week
We behold your glory, O God, in the love shown by your Son, lifted up on the cross and exalted on high. Increase our love for one another, that both in name and in truth we may be disciples of the risen Lord Jesus, and so reflect by our lives the glory that is yours. Grant this through Jesus Christ, the first-born from the dead, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  •  Those working for peace in Syria and other troubled countries of the world.
  •  Those killed or injured in the collapse of the building in Bangladesh and the fire in the Russian hospital.
  • All peoples separated from one another because of political or religious difference.
  • The archaeological dig and plans to extend the churchyard at St. Dunstan’s
  •  Fairly traded goods in the world, for the just reward for all producers irrespective of their nationality
  • For the elderly and infirm: The Princes Centre & St. Dunstan’s Lunch Club.
  • Residents of Westfields (MR), Long Hide (PR), Lower Icknield Way (L)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  •   and also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Richard Irvine, Alastair, Marion Mullens
  •  The recently departed: Margaret Alexander, David Flint
  •  Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Christina Hyde, Stella Cornford, Sid Howard, Doris Bird, Gerald Brock, Sybil Lord, Desmond Miller

Please remember the charities that the parish supports, in particular this week: Tearfund, working in partnership with Christian agencies and churches worldwide to tackle the causes and effects of poverty.

Every six weeks or so people meet as part of an informal group to encourage people in their faith through friendship and by looking at topical issues. A short DVD is shown at the beginning of the evening to start the discussions off. The meetings are held on different evenings of the week over the year so that everyone has the opportunity to participate. The next meeting will be on Monday June 3rd at 8 pm to which everyone is welcome.

‘Pilgrim Tour’ of Westminster Abbey
Following last year’s highly successful tour, I have again managed to make special arrangements for a prayer pilgrimage at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday June 5th. We will meet in the ‘lay-by’ in Monks Risborough at 3.30 pm to travel up to London by coach to arrive at the Abbey as it is closing to the general public. We will join a Canon Steward for a ‘pilgrim tour’ as we are taken around the Abbey hearing about its history and praying in its sacred places. The tour will begin at 6.15 pm, which this time will include the gardens, before ending with Compline at about 7.15 pm. We hope to return to Monks Risborough at about 9 pm. The cost will be £10 for adults, £5 for your first child under 18 (subsequent children free). You may want to bring a ‘snack’ with you. To book a place please contact James.

Thousands of Plants Required
Please can people take cuttings, plant seeds or donate plants for the Flower Festival at the end of June.  If you need greenhouse space this can be arranged. Further details from Noel Murtagh (01844) 344088.

The 2013 Festival of Prayer
When: Saturday 6 July 2013, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Where: Ripon College, Cuddesdon, nr Wheatley, Oxford OX44 9EX
Cost: £25 per person (discount available - book five places but only pay for four).
Now in its third year, this includes 'taster' sessions of some spiritual traditions and explores their deeper essence. The intention is to make different forms and styles of prayer accessible to beginners and the more experienced alike. Among the riches on offer are workshops on Ignatian, Celtic and Benedictine Spirituality; there are others on silence, healing, and praying with the whole body. They give opportunities to explore in depth how these traditions can feed the inner person. For more information log on to http://www.brfonline.org.uk/festival-of-prayer/

More grass cutters/lawnmowers needed urgently
We need to recruit four more people to cut the grass in the churchyard so that we continue to maintain its fine appearance. People can become part of a team so that there isn’t a need to commit yourself on too regular a basis. If you have a few hours to spare each month during the growing season then please speak to James or Sue/Susanne as churchwardens. Unfortunately two of our three mowers have broken. To avoid expensive repairs or the need to purchase any new lawnmowers if anyone has a reliable and robust machine that they no longer use please can they again let James or Sue/Susanne know as churchwardens. Thank you.
