Sunday 10th November 2013

Third Sunday before Advent
Remembrance Sunday

Come to the house of God just as you are, with all that you are; don’t leave it all behind. Bring your reality here to God and allow him to work on it; to take it and explore it within the safe house of God. Allow God to send you out transformed into the world, with a new reality refreshed and infused with the kingdom of God.

10.00 am    Parish Eucharist

Hymns: 573, 186, 252, 230, 672
Anthem: Holy, holy, holy by F. Schubert
Communion:  554, 483, 437

First Reading   Job 19 v 23-27a
Job’s so-called friends say that if he suffers, he must have done wrong, and God must be punishing him. But Job cries out with the truth he knows – life is cruel; he has done no wrong, and God is good.

Second Reading     2 Thessalonians 2 v 1-5 & 13-end
The Thessalonians have been disturbed and upset by an unknown person who was saying that the day of the Lord – when Christ comes to rule – had been and gone. Paul reassures them, and calls them to stand firm.

Gospel   Matthew 5 v 1-12
Even if a person’s situation is difficult or distressing, they can know that they have found favour in the sight of God.

Prayer for the Week
God of all living, in the resurrection of Christ Jesus you have given us the life which even death cannot destroy. Remember your unshakable promise and strengthen us to live in this world as your new creation. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:

  • The people of the Philippines, in the wake of the typhoon that has struck their country: for their safety and sufficient aid to rebuild their homes and their lives.
  • Those who have died or suffered as a result of the many conflicts in the last 100 years. May our remembrance of them inspire us always to work for peace in our time.
  • the people of Syria, as a result of the continuing strife there and for those who have become refugees
  • For all psychotherapists and all who council those seeking to come to terms with mental illness or distressing circumstances
  • For Crownfields Industrial Estate, Ministry Wharf and other businesses/industries in Saunderton.
  • For those who live in New Road (PR) Westlands Road & Meadow Rise (LG)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Richard Irvine, Alastair, David Holding, Matt Elworthy
  • The recently departed: Roger Haigh
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time: Pam Gordon

  • Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, offering specialist and supportive care and advice for patients with cancer and other life threatening illnesses in their homes.

    Notices

    Theft at St. Dunstan’s

Regrettably all of the items of silver were taken from the safe. This is very upsetting especially as some of the items were given commemoratively and some date back to the early 18th century. The police and the insurance company have been notified and we are now taking steps to purchase new communion vessels which are being part funded by an anonymous donation. If you have been given any key(s) please do not make a copy without consulting either James, Sue and Susanne as otherwise our insurance policy may be invalidated.

    Newsletter - Today
Copy date for contributions is 10th November.  Please send entries to morna.hinch@btinternet.com or john@jamckay.demon.co.uk

We are putting together a Christmas Hamper as the main raffle prize for the Advent Fair. In the porch is a list of items we need.  Please sign up to items or let Cathy (343226) know what you are able to provide. Cathy is happy to receive items on a Sunday or can collect. Ros Haigh (344166) is also looking out for for any spare bulb bowls or baskets that anyone may be willing to give to plant up for the Fair. Flyers will also be available next Sunday for people to pop into houses along their road. Many thanks in anticipation of your help.

Risborough Team Confirmation Service at St. John’s Church, Lacey Green, November 24th at 6pm.
Confirmation is traditionally seen as the entry point to receive Holy Communion as a person ‘confirms’ the promises made on their behalf at their Baptism. Preparation sessions are available for adults on Monday November 11th and November 18th at 8 pm (venue to be confirmed); and for children/teenagers on Saturday November 9th and 16th from 2.30-4.30 pm. If you (and/or your child) are thinking about being confirmed please speak with James. You may find the letter which is in the current newsletter helpful.

Volunteers Required - Churchyard leaf sweep and maintenance
On Saturday November 30th at 9.30am we are looking to clear all fallen leaves from the churchyard and to carry out some general tasks such as pruning trees and maintaining paths. We can provide some tools but if you can bring any yourself that would be extremely helpful. James

Review of the Parish Eucharist at St. Dunstan’s
The meeting of the small worship sub group is next due to meet on Saturday December 7th. There is therefore still plenty of time to let James or Rob know your views on such things for example as: singing the psalm, the use of traditional language in Advent and Lent, the length of the service. If you have any thoughts about the worship at the Parish Eucharist please let James or Rob know so that these can be taken in to consideration.

Christmas Candlelight Concert – December 18th at 8pm
Last year this was a sell-out and the Chinnor Silver Band have been invited back again to perform their wonderful festive music and to enable others to sing some carols. Tickets are £7.50 available from Pat Kimber (273942) or David Shuttle in the High Street in Princes Risborough. Complimentary glass of wine/soft drink and a mince pie
