Prayer for the Week
God our Saviour, you utter a word of promise and hope and hasten the day of justice and freedom, yet we live in a world forgetful of your word, our watchfulness dulled by the cares of life.
Keep us alert. Make us attentive to your word, ready to look on your Son when he comes with power and great glory. Make us holy and blameless, ready to stand secure when the day of his coming shakes the world with terror.
We ask this through him, whose coming is certain, whose day draws near: your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:

  • Children facing violence, neglect, homelessness or poverty and the work of the Children’s Society in meeting their needs
  • Risborough Ministry Team: discernment and development of ministry across the team - lay and ordained. The role of the Team Forum.
  • For all those suffering from AIDS and all who are HIV infected, for all who care for a loved one suffering
  • For those who live in Stratton Road & Sycamore House (PR) Skittle Green & Holly Green, (B)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Richard Irvine, Alastair, David Holding, Matt Elworthy, Uncle Frank
  • The recently departed: Nev Holding
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Bill Avery, Grace Freed, Barry Mortimer, Joan Pitcher

Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
PACT (Parents and Children Together) helps hundreds of families every year through adoption and fostering services and community projects across London and the south east.

Safeguarding (children and vulnerable adults) officer required
We are looking to find a person to be our Safeguarding Officer.  This involves making sure that any activities we carry out with children or vulnerable adults are done safely and in accordance with guidelines, for example, ensuring that everyone on the rota for Sunday School has been through the Disclosure and Barring procedure. It would also be helpful to find someone who could support the Safeguarding offer, taking on some of the basic administration and paperwork, keeping lists up to date and so on.  Susanne Dodds (342746) would be happy to discuss this with anyone who might be interested.

Advent Fair – Thank You
Thank you to everyone who made this event such a great success. Over £850 was raised and there was a lovely community spirit to the whole occasion. James

To ‘take away’ with you
Please take away a free collection of Advent and Christmas Bible readings and reflections to help you celebrate this special time of year. James

‘Serving’ at St. Dunstan’s
We need to recruit one or two more adults or children to help assist the priest at the altar, holding the red Gospel book and carrying the cross as part of the procession. Without obligation, if you think you might be interested please speak with James or Sheila.

Message from Bishop John Pritchard of Oxford
“Advent starts today. How quickly it all descends on us. I hope you have an Advent discipline which can hold you through the frantic days – Compline, a poem a day (try Janet Morley’s Advent to Epiphany book ‘Haphazard by Starlight, examination of the day last thing at night, a five minute pool of silence somewhere in the day, £1 in a charity box every time you hear Slade’s Merry Christmas Everybody… Whatever you do to mark the season of Advent may the darkness be the prelude to an amazing Light.'

Review of the Parish Eucharist at St. Dunstan’s
The meeting of the small worship sub group is next due to meet on Saturday December 7th. There is therefore still plenty of time to let James or Rob know your views on such things for example as: singing the psalm, the use of traditional language in Advent and Lent, the length of the service. If you have any thoughts about the worship at the Parish Eucharist please let James or Rob know so that these can be taken in to consideration.

Help required for Christmas refreshments
In the weeks running up to Christmas we aim to provide drinks and refreshments for a variety of services and events. These all centre on mulled wine, mince pies and soft drinks. The details and approximate timing when the refreshments need to be served are below:
After the school carol singing on December 9th (7.30 in the hall); After the Nine and Lessons and Carols service on December 15th (7.15 in the church); After the choir, church and community carol singing on December 16th (8.00 in the hall); During the interval of the Chinnor Silver Band concert on December 18th (8.45 in the church).
Please can you write your name on the sheet in the porch if you can help on any or all of these occasions. Many thanks, James.
