Prayer for the week
Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:

  • Those parts of the world torn apart by bloodshed and violence and for those forced to flee their homes and to live as refugees
  • Farmers as they prepare the land for this year’s crops that they will have favourable weather conditions to produce an abundant harvest.
  • Colin Fletcher as acting Bishop of Oxford and for all those exercising leadership within the Diocese
  • Local trades people - builders, plumbers, electricians
  • Thorns Lane & Close, Whiteleaf & Whiteleaf Way (MR) Ilmer and the surrounding area
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Alastair, Uncle Frank, Katy, Albert and Georgina Cole, Gillian Brady, Jane, Denis
  • The recently departed
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Jan Forrest, Barry Fisher, Raymond East, Enid Phillips, Keith Janes

Silent Prayer Meeting, Monday June 1st at 8pm:
We need silence to help us to get a proper perspective on our lives; to hear the still, small voice of God, and to refresh our inner being. All are welcome to the church hall for these meetings of any faith or none. For further information please contact James

Bucks Arts Week Cream Teas and Exhibitors
We will be serving cream teas from the church hall from 2.30 - 4.30 on June 13th/14th and June 20th/21st over the two weekends of Bucks Open Studios.  We need a small number of cakes.  If you are able to bake a cake for either weekend please let me know. Cathy (343226) or cathy.farquhar@btinternet.com or please sign the list in the porch. The Church will provide the setting for 10 artists to display their high quality work which will include jewellery, paintings and wood carving. The church will be open daily from Saturday June 13th to Sunday June 21st from 10 am (12 am on Sundays) to 5 pm for visitors to browse/buy.

New Musical Setting for St. Dunstan’s
Starting on June 14th we will be using the Trinity Mass Setting composed by David Thorne for the Parish Eucharist. It is widely used across the Oxford Diocese, is relatively easy to learn, and has great joy and musical depth. Parts of the mass setting have already been sung at the Nine Lessons and Carols Service as well as during Communion at the Parish Eucharist. We will have a ‘rehearsal’ for those can come at 9.40 am on Sunday June 14th. For those who have internet access the setting can be listened to on http://www.culvermusic.com/trinity-mass.html James

The Friendship Group
We meet in the church hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 2.30 pm. The next meeting is Wednesday 17th June. All welcome!

Churchyard Working Party, Saturday June 20th
Starting at 9.30am and finishing by 12 noon please come along for an enjoyable and sociable time working in the churchyard. There is a job for everyone with weeding, sawing, pruning, lopping etc. all needing to be done. Please bring along your own tools. James

Concert and Afternoon Tea: The Chandos Ensemble
On Sunday July 12th at 3.30pm there will be a concert of popular music for string orchestra including: Elgar Serenade for Strings, Albinoni Oboe Concerto in D minor and Handel Concerto Grosso Op.6 conducted by Patrick Garrett and leader Marion Garrett. This will be followed by afternoon tea and a raffle (please bring a chair with you if you’d like to sit outside). Tickets are £8/adult and £2/accompanied child available from Pat Kimber 01844 273942 or the Elephant’s Trunk, Duke Street, Princes Risborough

Book your place – Westminster Abbey On Wednesday July 15th we will meet in the ‘lay-by’ in Monks Risborough at 3:30 pm to travel up to London by coach to arrive at the Abbey as it closes to the general public. There should be time before the tour starts at 6 pm to wander around the west end of the Abbey and to make use of the toilets. The ‘pilgrim’s tour’ will take us around the Abbey hearing about its history and praying in its sacred places that are not always open to the public. The usual price for a group tour is £17 per person but these special arrangements enable us to charge just £15 per person (children £7.50) including the cost of the coach. We hope to return to Monks Risborough at about 9:00 pm and you may want to bring a ‘snack’ with you. To book a place please contact James and send your money with cheques payable to ‘Monks Risborough PCC’ to the Rectory, Mill Lane, Monks Risborough, HP27 9JE.

A Day Trip to Canterbury – Waiting list
This years’ visit to Canterbury is now fully booked but I will be creating a reserve list as some people may drop out. Also if there is sufficient demand I can hire another coach. Details of the trip can be found in the parish newsletter. If you have not yet paid for the trip, please can you do so as soon as possible. James

Ideas for the South Aisle
You’ll notice that the altar has been removed from underneath the St. Cecilia window. This has created some space and highlighted the two lovely brasses there. The space will be used by Bucks Open Studios in June and also by musicians when we have concerts. It may be appropriate to install a servery there sympathetic to the rest of the church which doesn’t take up much space. It may be best to leave the space empty to give greater flexibility for hosting events and special services, or you may have some ideas yourself. Any thoughts gratefully received. James
