Welcome!

Please see our welcome leaflet on the table for all of our services and activities.

During the summer holidays the 10 o’clock club for children is taking a break but babies and children are most welcome to make use of the toys and the colouring sheets in the children’s corner at St. Dunstan’s during the service.

Sunday 23rd August 2015

Twelfth Sunday after Trinity

As we come freely into our Lord’s presence, let us offer our whole selves in worship:  our mind, our heart, our soul, our strength.

10.00am Parish Eucharist

Hymns: 57, 487, 12, 428
Communion: 472, 610, 938

First Reading 1 Kings 8: 22-30 & 41-43
Solomon prays that God will continue his faithfulness, here in the Temple.

Second Reading Ephesians 6:10-20
Paul reminds the Ephesians that the Christian struggle is against opposing spiritual powers rather than human beings. He urges them to arm themselves with God’s full spiritual resources in Christ and remain constant in prayer.

Gospel John 6:56-69
Jesus’ offer of life to those who eat his flesh and drink his blood, troubles his disciples. Many desert him, but Peter speaks for the Twelve, affirming his trust in Jesus as the Holy One of God.

6.00pm Owlswick Evensong

Readings: Isaiah 61 v 1-19; 2 Corinthians 6 v1 -10
Hymns: 205, Psalm 97, 457, 282, 408

Prayer for the week
In every age, O God, you gave your people freedom to walk in faith or to turn away. Grant us grace to remain faithful to your Holy One, whose words are spirit and life, Jesus Christ, our Lord who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:

  • Calm, wisdom and compassion in dealing with the plight of migrants, as well as the political and economic instability in Greece
  • All local sporting amenities, swimming pools, tracks, ice rinks – that they may be valued and freely available to all.
  • Local members of parliament and those who support their work.
  • Wycombe Road (PR) Lee Road (Sa).
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Alastair, Uncle Frank, Anne Clark, Katy, Georgina Cole, Jane, Dave Skinner.
  • The recently departed:
    • Peg Norris, Marie Drury, Yvonne Smith, Shana Stonell
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time: David Ramsay.

Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
The Whitechapel Mission is dedicated to providing a lifeline to the men and women caught in the cycles of poverty, hopelessness and dependencies of many kinds, and to see their lives transformed to hope, joy and lasting productivity. www.whitechapel.org.uk

Bucks County Show Hospitality Tent and Cakes
Once again many of the local churches are getting together to offer hospitality to those who come to this show held at Weedon Park (north of Aylesbury on the A413) on Thursday August 27th. The hospitality tent provides a space to rest (a while), with a free cup of coffee or tea and cake and also children’s craft activities.  Last year around 1,000 drinks were served and 100 cakes eaten! Mick and Anne White (346536) are co-ordinating the help from this parish. If you can donate a cake or help on the day please let them know. The cakes should not contain cream or buttercream as these are difficult to transport but these are the only exceptions!

Upgrading of Heating and Installation of New Boiler
Starting on Monday September 28th with completion due by Friday October 2nd work will be undertaken to install some new radiators and a new boiler. James

Confirmation Sessions and Service
A confirmation class for adults and children is being held at the Rectory on Saturday October 17th and Saturday October 24th from 2.30-4.30pm. The Confirmation service itself will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Bledlow on Sunday November 1st at 6pm. If you would like to consider being confirmed please contact James. Confirmation is often seen as the entry point to receive Holy Communion as a person ‘confirms’ the promises made on their behalf at their Baptism.

Reform and Renewal – the significance of St. Dunstan
A fascinating one day course is being offered by the department of continuing education at Oxford University on Saturday October 24th. The course fee is £65 (50% of this can be subsidised). Further details are available in the porch, www.conted.ox.ac.uk, emailing ppdayweek@conted.ox.ac.uk or phoning 01865 270368

New Musical Setting for St. Dunstan’s
We have begun using the Trinity Setting composed by David Thorne for the Parish Eucharist. For those who have internet access the setting can be listened to on http://www.culvermusic.com/trinity-mass.html. There are copies of the music available for those who would like to have one. Everyone is also invited to come along to the first part of choir practice on Thursday September 10th at 6.30 to become more familiar with the setting. James

Prayer Diary and Welcome Cards available
Prayer is fundamental to the health and development of all churches. If you would like to take a laminated prayer card from the table and spend a few moments each day praying for different aspects of church/chapel life you would be most welcome. You’ll also find welcome cards in the pews as well as on the table and you are encouraged to pass this on to anyone moving in to the parish. James

Bucks Arts Week Commission
