Welcome!

We hope you will enjoy worshipping here with us.
Please see our welcome leaflet on the table for all of our services and activities. The 10 o’clock club for babies, toddlers and children meet in the church hall where coffee, squash and biscuits are served after the service.

Sunday 19th June
Fourth Sunday after Trinity

Wherever we have come from, and whatever our background may be, we rejoice that God’s love extends to each of us. May that love free us from fear and strengthen our faith as we worship the one who, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is reaching out to us today.

10.00am   Parish Communion
Hymns: 566, 219, 205, 695
Communion: 412, 467, 930

First Reading 1 Kings 19:1-4 & 8-15a
Elijah flees in fear, but with miraculous food and another vivid lesson about the divine in the ordinary, God reminds him of his mission.

Second Reading Galatians 3:23-end
Whatever our race or gender or background, faith in Christ is the key that frees us to inherit our promised salvation as God’s children.

Gospel Luke 8:26-39
Frightening, foreign, the demoniac meets Jesus and is healed, regardless. Pigs flee as even a “legion” of evil surrenders to faith, and the one who is healed will proclaim the Gospel.

6.00pm Evensong
Readings: Genesis 24 v 1-27, Mark 5 v 21-end
Hymns: 315, Psalm 50 v1-15, 310, 673

Prayer of the week

O God, whose Son, our Messiah and Lord, did not turn aside from the path of suffering nor spare his disciples the prospect of rejection, pour out your Spirit upon this assembly, that we may abandon the security of the easy way and follow in Christ's footsteps towards the cross and true life. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked for:

  • All those being ordained deacon or priest this Petertide
  • The families of all victims of violence, especially the family of the MP Jo Cox, that they will be comforted in their despair.
  • Everyone preparing to vote in the EU referendum, that they may make a wise and responsible choice putting love for God and neighbour at the centre of their decision making.
  • Those living in war torn areas of the world such as Syria and Iraq, and those who continue to lose their lives crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
  • The holding of the European Football Championship in a peaceful and respectful environment
  • The victims of unfair trading subsidies and cartels which make their product impossible to sell
  • Risborough Upper School, its pupils, staff, head and governors.
  • Picts Lane (PR) St Peters Close & Archway (Sp)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Katy, Georgina Cole, Robert, Dave Skinner
  • The recently departed: Roonie Wood-Johnson
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Mollie Whyte, Richard Millard, Jean Pritchard

Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
PACT helps hundreds of families every year through outstanding adoption and fostering services, award-winning therapeutic support and inspirational community projects across London and the south of England.            www.pactcharity.org

A Prayer for the European Referendum
God of truth, give us grace to debate the issues in this referendum with honesty and openness. Give generosity to those who seek to form opinion and discernment to those who vote, that our nation may prosper and that with all the peoples of Europe we may work for peace and the common good; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Triple Edition of the Pew Sheet

There will be a triple edition of the pew sheet to cover June 26th/July 3rd/July 10th. Please bear this in mind when submitting notices as space may be limited.

Accommodation required for Watoto Children’s Choir

This choir is coming to Risborough for two or three days at the end of June. The choir has travelled internationally since 1994 as advocates for the estimated 50 million children in Africa, orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war, poverty and disease. The choir is accompanied by a team of adults who act as ambassadors for the orphaned and vulnerable children of Africa. If you are able to accommodate two or three children and their accompanying adult please speak with the pastor at the Elim Church, Wendy Pawsey on 07411 363 376.

JDRF (Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation Ltd)
At present type 1 diabetes (over 29000 children in the UK) is a life-long condition needing daily blood tests averaging 5 to 6 finger pricks, injections and dietary intake monitoring, as well as serious health risks. Our granddaughter (from age 8, now 10 years old) and a great nephew (from age 4, now 6 years old) both have type 1 diabetes. We plan to run in support of the work of JDRF. Please encourage us if you can with a money donation via us so that we complete a 5 km run (it's a two for one 'deal'!) in Waddesdon Manor grounds on Wednesday 20th July. Thank you Mick & Anne White.

St. Albans Cathedral Pilgrimage
Owing to popular demand there will be a second pilgrim tour of St. Albans Abbey on Wednesday September 28th. Leaving by coach from the lay-by off the A4010 in Monks Risborough at 5.30 pm, the evening starts with a sandwich and cake buffet in the Abbot’s kitchen at 7 pm. This is followed by a Pilgrimage Prayer Trail around the Cathedral, Compline by candlelight in the Quire, before concluding with a silent procession to the Shrine of Saint Alban. We will return to the lay-by in Monks Risborough at about 10.15pm. The cost for the St. Albans trip is £17.50. If you would like to book a place please contact Rev James Tomkins jamestomkins@btinternet.com (01844 275944) and send your money with cheques payable to ‘Monks Risborough PCC’ to the Rectory, Mill Lane, Monks Risborough, HP27 9JE. The trip to Ely cathedral on August 10th is now fully booked and I am starting a reserve list.

Children’s Corner
Following conversations with some children and a generous donation from the lunch club we are looking to enhance the north-west corner of the church with some furniture, cushions, mat etc. to make it more appealing to young people.

Confirmation
Confirmation is often seen as the entry point to receive Holy Communion as a person ‘confirms’ the promises made on their behalf at their Baptism. Whatever age you are if you’re interested in taking this step in your Christian journey please speak with James as it’s likely that there will be an opportunity to attend a confirmation service in the area in September.
