Prayer of the Week
Provident Father, with the prayer your Son taught us always on our lips, we ask, we seek, we knock at your door. In our every need, grant us the first and best of all your gifts, the Spirit who makes us your children. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked for:

  • Florence Barber as she begins her journey of faith through Baptism
  • The people and government of Turkey, that there may be a just, peaceful and democratic solution to the upheaval there
  • The safety and refreshment of those on holiday
  • All of the preparations for Lighthouse, for sufficient leaders and helpers to fulfil specific roles
  • Those who operate technology to make our roads safer and help motorists keep to appropriate speeds
  • The Wellington House Surgery: for all of their doctors, nurses, other staff and patients.
  • Wellington Avenue (PR) Little Lane (Saunderton)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Katy, Georgina Cole, Robert, Dave Skinner
  • The recently departed:
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Margaret Ashby

Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
Relief for Oppressed People Everywhere (ROPE) is committed to combating the impact of poverty across the world.

Concert and Birthday Teas, Sunday July 17th, 3.30 pm
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who has helped provide so many cakes and scones, as well as serving numerous teas and helping out in other ways not only for this concert but also during Bucks Arts Week and the service to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. It has been tremendously uplifting to provide such excellent hospitality and is a great way of serving and engaging with the local community.  The concert last week raised over £800. With my thanks again, James

Sustaining the Sacred Centre

As part of this initiative there are various opportunities to try different forms of prayer during August. A leaflet is available on the table towards the back of the church giving more details. Please take some time out during August to come to one or more of these services. James and Rob

JDRF (Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation Ltd)
At present type 1 diabetes (over 29000 children in the UK) is a life-long condition needing daily blood tests averaging 5 to 6 finger pricks, injections and dietary intake monitoring, as well as serious health risks. Our granddaughter (from age 8, now 10 years old) and a great nephew (from age 4, now 6 years old) both have type 1 diabetes. We plan to run in support of the work of JDRF. Please encourage us if you can with a money donation via us so that we complete a 5 km run (it's a two for one 'deal'!) in Waddesdon Manor grounds on Wednesday 20th July. Mick and Ann successfully completed the course in the heat of Wednesday evening and it is not too late to sponsor them retrospectively. Thank you Mick & Anne White

Tandem skydive for PACE
Ann Tomkins is doing a tandem skydive on Sunday 24th July for PACE.  This is a local charity which helps transform the lives of children with motor disorders, mainly cerebral palsy. The children that PACE helps face challenges every day and this is a personal challenge for Ann as she has a fear of heights.  If you can sponsor her she would be very grateful.  You can do this through just giving: https://www.justgiving.com/Ann-Tomkins or there is a sponsorship form on the table at the back of church.  PS the vicar has given her permission to not be at church today!

Fellowship Group

The next walk will take place on Tuesday 26th July – meet in the A4010 layby at 9.15am. Very many thanks to everybody who contributed to the success of the garden party. On August 11th at 8 pm in the church hall we have our very own Rose Williams speaking about her work as a hospital chaplain. Everyone is very welcome.

Cream Teas and Songs of Praise, July 31st On Sunday 31st July St. Peter’s Chapel Owlswick is celebrating 150 years of serving the community with a visit from the Bishop of Buckingham and the official opening of the new “dry composting” toilet and disabled access path. Cream teas are being served from 4.30pm and the Songs of Praise style service starts at 6pm. All are very welcome to eat or sing or both!

Silent Prayer Meeting, Monday August 1st, 8 pm church hall
We need silence to help us to get a proper perspective on our lives; to hear the still, small voice of God, and to refresh our inner being. All are welcome to these meetings of any faith or none. Each meeting lasts about 45 minutes. The meeting starts with some simple relaxation exercises, a short passage from the Bible to reflect upon in the half hour of silence, followed by a time of sharing of our experiences if people wish. James

St. Albans Cathedral Pilgrimage
Owing to popular demand there will be a second pilgrim tour of St. Albans Abbey on Wednesday September 28th. Leaving by coach from the lay-by off the A4010 in Monks Risborough at 5.30 pm, the evening starts with a sandwich and cake buffet in the Abbot’s kitchen at 7 pm. This is followed by a Pilgrimage Prayer Trail around the Cathedral, Compline by candlelight in the Quire, before concluding with a silent procession to the Shrine of Saint Alban. We will return to the lay-by in Monks Risborough at about 10.15pm. The cost for the St. Albans trip is £17.50. If you would like to book a place please contact Rev James Tomkins jamestomkins@btinternet.com (01844 275944) and send your money with cheques payable to ‘Monks Risborough PCC’ to the Rectory, Mill Lane, Monks Risborough, HP27 9JE. A few spaces have recently become available for the trip to Ely cathedral on August 10th. Please let James know if you would like to come.

Confirmation
Confirmation is often seen as the entry point to receive Holy Communion as a person ‘confirms’ the promises made on their behalf at their Baptism. Whatever age you are, if you’re interested in taking this step in your Christian journey please speak with James as it’s likely that there will be an opportunity to attend a confirmation service in the area in September.
