Prayer for the week:
Faithful God, who loves us in Christ Jesus, send your Spirit of truth to dwell within us, that we may always reject what is false, live by the commands of Christ, and be true to the love you have shown us. Grant this through Jesus Christ, the resurrection and the life, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Silent Prayer Meeting – Monday May 22nd
We need silence to help us to get a proper perspective on our lives; to hear the still, small voice of God, and to refresh our inner being. All are welcome to these meetings in the church hall of any faith or none. Each meeting lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. The meeting starts with some simple relaxation exercises, a short passage from the Bible to reflect upon in the half hour of silence, followed by a time of sharing of our experiences if people wish. For more information please contact James.

Sustaining the Sacred Centre
As part of a national prayer initiative ‘thy kingdom come’ that runs from May 25th (Ascension Day) to June 4th (Pentecost) A prayer sheet for each day can be found by the table near the south door. There are versions for children and adults but as is often the case adults may prefer the one for children!  A booklet of pocket prayers has also been produced to help you pray daily, whenever and wherever you are. In doing do you will be joining individuals, groups, schools, churches and deaneries praying together throughout the world. More resources can be found on this link www.thykingdomcome.global In August there will again be a service almost daily to help us to ‘sustain our scared centre’. James

Congregational Mailing
Next Sunday (May 28th) everyone should receive a stewardship pack to assist in reviewing what we give to the church and to God.

Evening Talks at St. Peter’s Chapel, Owlswick
The next talk in this series will be given by Susanne Carr on Tuesday 30th May at 8 pm. Susanne is a local but internationally acclaimed art historian. Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, 16th – 25th April 2018
Ann and I have booked on to a pilgrimage to the Holy Land organised by Lightline Pilgrimages. ‘Following in the footsteps of Jesus’ will be led by Revs. Alastair Wheeler and Christopher Durrant and will involve a three night stay in Galilee and a six night stay in Jerusalem. Alastair writes “It’s not a holiday – but we hope that it will be hugely enjoyable and stimulating as we try to imagine events of the part that have changed the world for ever.” For further information or if you wish to book please log on to www.lightline.org.uk or call 01992 576065 or look at the poster in the porch. James

A little book of guidance
I have been made aware of a series of books under the title ‘A Little Book of Guidance’. Titles and authors include ‘where on earth is heaven’ (Paula Gooder); ‘why go to church’ (John Pritchard) and ‘why does God allow suffering’ (Robin Gill). They are only 50 pages long, cost £3.99 on Amazon and are an excellent and insightful read on a variety of issues that enable people of faith or no faith to look for answers to life’s biggest questions. Please do order one or more of these books. James
