Sunday 13th March 2011
First Sunday of Lent

Just as Jesus knew our human weakness and temptation, so he came to show us a new way to live. We live that life with his example and in the power of the Spirit. Let’s worship together, members of the same Body, and allow ourselves to be opened again to God’s Spirit of love and strength.
Welcome to St Dunstan’s Church

If you are new to Monks Risborough or just visiting please introduce yourself to the Welcomers at the door who will be happy to tell you more about the church and its events.
The Junior Church (10 o’clock Club) meet in the Church Hall before coming into Church for the Communion.
Coffee and tea are served in the Church Hall immediately after the 10.00am service - all are welcome.

Second Reading Romans 5:12-19
Our oneness in Adam and Eve’s sin, condemnation and punishment is like our oneness in Christ’s grace, justification and righteousness.

Gospel Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus was tempted, just as Adam and Eve were, by bodily needs, desires and pride, but answered with the words of Deuteronomy.

6.00 pm Choral Evensong

Prayer for the week
Lord our God, in every age you call a people to hear your word and to do your will. Renew us in these Lenten days: washed clean of sin, sealed with the Spirit, and sustained by your living bread, may we remain true to our calling and, with the elect, serve you alone. Grant this through Christ, our liberator from sin, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, holy and mighty God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:
 the peoples of Japan and the other Pacific nations in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami
 the Libyan people at this time of violence and unrest
 The Paddocks clinic and the Chiltern private hospital, and all those awaiting operations
 Residents of Wellington Avenue (Princes Risborough), and Lower Icknield Way and Upper Icknield Way (Bledlow).
 For the recently departed
◦ Chris Broadmeadow
 Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time particularly Marjorie Bridger, Anthony Boyson, Doreen Morrison, Agnes Bowell, Alan Laken, Frances Lipyeart, Charlotte Campbell Dewar, Mark Russell
Please remember the charities that St Dunstan's supports, in particular this week:
Christian Blind Mission, an international Christian development organisation committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the poorest countries of the world.
