Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of all: govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

God promises that, as a shepherd cares for his flock, he will gather his people together, strengthening the weak, protecting the vulnerable and passing judgement of those who exploit others.

Second Reading           Ephesians 1:15-23

Paul prays that the Ephesians will be given spiritual wisdom to understand the greatness of God’s power revealed in Christ and at work among them.

Gospel Reading            Matthew 25: 31-end

The Son of Man, as king, pronounces judgement on the nations: people are judged on their response to the poor, the sick, the stranger and the prisoner, with whom the king identifies himself.

Prayer for the week

Almighty God, you have conferred upon Christ Jesus sovereignty over every age and nation.  Direct us in the love of Christ, to care for the least of his brothers and sisters, that we may be subject to his dominion and receive the inheritance of your kingdom.  Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, you Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:


  • the leaders of the European nations as they seek to deal with the current economic crisis
  • Wycombe General Hospital, Doctors, nurses and other staff and patients.
  • The Royal British Legion, ex-service organisations, especially for their continuing care of the wounded and the bereaved.
  • The work of the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, Florence Nightingale House and MacMillan Nurses.  Those suffering from cancer and those who fear it.
  • Residents of Poppy Rd, The old Garden Centre (PR), Water Lane, Flowers Bottom Lane and Lily Bottom Lane (Sp)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:

We have had some new 'recruits' whom we would like to welcome, and this is an opportunity for us to look at the sidespersons' duties and for anyone to raise any queries.

Applying for a Grant from Hody’s Charity

This was founded by a rector of St Dunstan’s Church, Monks Risborough in 1706, and added to by his successor Dr Quarles. It provides grants for students in further or higher education or for apprentices who live in the parish or who are on the electoral roll. Applicant must be <21 at the time of their first application and <25 years old on receipt of the last grant. You can apply three times. This is the time of year for applications. Christmas Candlelight Concert, December 14th
