First Reading              1 Thessalonians 4:13 - end

Paul assures the Thessalonians that the hope of their faith embraces Christians of both past and present generations.  When Jesus returns in glory, all who love him will rise to share eternal life with their Lord.      

Gospel Reading            Matthew 25: 1-13

Jesus tells the story of the ten bridesmaids to urge his followers to be wise in ensuring they are prepared to receive him at all times; for no one can know the exact moment of his return.

Prayer for the week

God, our refuge and strength, bring near the day when wars shall cease and poverty and pain shall end, that the earth may know the peace of heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord

Last year I went to some very interesting debates/ talks in St Paul's Cathedral, given by eminent speakers.  This year they are about characters from the Bible.  I am hoping to go to the next one on Nov 8th (Jesus).   If you would like to join me just let me know. The website is:

Bible Study Group – ‘The Apprentice’, November 10th

‘The Apprentice’ is a course that covers the following themes: journeying; longing; believing; questioning and belonging. Following a short DVD, a series of questions will help us to explore and discuss these various topics. All are welcome to come along to the Rectory, Mill Lane at 8 pm. James

Calling all sidespeople, November 27th


We are having a short meeting on November 27th at 11.30am in the church. We have had some new 'recruits' whom we would like to welcome, and this is an opportunity for us to look at the sidespersons' duties and for anyone to raise any queries.

Churchyard leaf sweep/maintenance, December 3rd

At 9.30 am on Saturday December 3rd we are looking to clear the remainder of the fallen leaves from the churchyard. We need a significant number of people to complete this work. Please come along if you can with a rake and large garden sacks. James

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

If you would like to purchase a poppy to help raise funds for the work of the Royal British Legion as part of their 90th anniversary year please use the collecting box towards the main door of the church.

Double Edition of the Pewsheet

The next edition of the pew sheet will be a double one covering both November 13th and 20th. Space may therefore be limited for notices.

Singers Required for Carol Service

Starting on November 17th practices will be held for the Nine Lessons and Carols service to be held on December 18th at 6 pm. If anyone would like to sing as part of the choir for this service they would be most welcome to come along to practices beginning on November 17th from 6.30 – 7.30. No audition is necessary, just a willingness to have fun and commit to the majority of the weekly practices. I hope you can make it. James
