Prayer for the Week

Holy God, the folly of the cross mocks our human wisdom, and the weakness of the crucified puts worldly power to shame.  Banish from our hearts every pretence of might and of knowledge, that by the power flowing from Christ’s resurrection your people may be raised up from the death of sin and fashioned into a living temple of your glory.  Amen

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • The Anglican Church in Hong Kong and for the Annual Church meetings taking place this week
  • Victims of famine, natural disaster, famine and war
  • All teachers, lecturers and other staff in schools and colleges. Good parent – teacher relationships and the work of community groups to support schools
  • Air, sea and mountain rescue organisations especially the RNLI, remembering those who have lost their lives in the service of others.
  • Residents of Walnut Crescent (L) and Hinton Crossing (B)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
    • Gordon Haynes; Christine; Joan Male; Richard Irvine; Sally Maddox; Sarah, Matt and Riley; Emma, Matt and Olivia
  • For the recently departed including:
    • Susan Watson
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time particularly:
    •  Ethel Seager, Anthony Boyson, Doreen Morrison, Agnes Bowell, Alan Laken, Eddy Tranter

Please remember the charities that St Dunstan's supports, in particular this week:

Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, offering specialist and supportive care and advice for patients with cancer and other life threatening illnesses in their homes.

Receiving Holy Communion

A couple of years ago there was concern about sharing the common cup at Holy Communion because of the risk of infection from ‘swine flu’. Please can I reassure people that any risk associated with this virus and Holy Communion has now passed. It is perfectly safe for people to drink from the chalice rather than follow the practice of the priest ‘intincting’ or dipping the wafer in to the wine on behalf of the communicant. There are of course times, e.g. when you have a cold, when it is best to ask the priest to intinct the wafer on your behalf, but wherever possible please can I encourage (but not compel) you to “drink this...in remembrance of me”. I realise that this may be of concern to some people so please feel free to chat with me further about this. James
