Prayer for the Week

O God, rich in mercy, you so loved the world that when we were dead in our sins, you sent your only Son for our deliverance.  Lifted up from the earth, he is light and life; exalted upon the cross, he is truth and salvation.  Raise us up with Christ and make us rich in good works that we may walk as children of light toward the paschal feast of heaven.  We ask this through Christ, our deliverance and hope, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, holy and might God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • The Archbishop of Canterbury and the election of his successor
  • Members of the armed forces, especially those serving overseas under the United Nations mandate.
  • Monks Risborough C of E Combined School, its pupils, staff, head and governors.
  • Residents of Windsor Hill (PR) Crownfield and Wycombe Rd (Sp)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
    • Gordon Haynes; Christine; Joan Male; Richard Irvine; Sally Maddox; Sarah, Matt and Riley; Emma, Matt and Olivia
  • For the recently departed including:
    • Susan Watson
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time particularly:
    •  Charlotte Campbell Dewar, Mark Russell, Tom Kingham, Edward Fraser, George Beckett, Minnie Greig
Please remember the charities that St Dunstan's supports, in particular this week:

Receiving Holy Communion

A couple of years ago there was concern about sharing the common cup at Holy Communion because of the risk of infection from ‘swine flu’. Please can I reassure people that any risk associated with this virus and Holy Communion has now passed. It is perfectly safe for people to drink from the chalice rather than follow the practice of the priest ‘intincting’ or dipping the wafer in to the wine on behalf of the communicant. There are of course times, e.g. when you have a cold, when it is best to ask the priest to intinct the wafer on your behalf, but wherever possible please can I encourage (but not compel) you to “drink this...in remembrance of me”. I realise that this may be of concern to some people so please feel free to chat with me further about this. James
