Receiving Holy Communion

A couple of years ago there was concern about sharing the common cup at Holy Communion because of the risk of infection from ‘swine flu’. Please can I reassure people that any risk associated with this virus and Holy Communion has now passed. It is perfectly safe for people to drink from the chalice rather than follow the practice of the priest ‘intincting’ or dipping the wafer in to the wine on behalf of the communicant. There are of course times, e.g. when you have a cold, when it is best to ask the priest to intinct the wafer on your behalf, but wherever possible please can I encourage (but not compel) you to “drink this...in remembrance of me”. I realise that this may be of concern to some people so please feel free to chat with me further about this. James
