Sunday 13th May 2012

Sixth Sunday of Easter

Jesus said: “You are my friends if you do what I command you.” In this Eucharist we recognise his presence in the bead and wine, and as his friends, we obey his command to “do this in remembrance.”.

Hymns
Introit: 114
Psalm:  98
Offertory: 503

Anthem: Christ the Lord is risen again
Recessional: 16#

First Reading                Acts: 10: 44 - end
The Holy Spirit falls on the Gentiles who have heard Peter preach in Caesarea.  Peter sees this as a sign that all who believe in Jesus may be baptised into the faith.

Second Reading           1 John 5: 1-6
John meditates on the love of God and the response of faith as testified by the Spirit that leads to “the victory that overcomes the world”.

Jesus speaks to his disciples not as servants but as friends.  They are to abide in his love and obey his command to love one another.

Prayer for the Week
God of all nations, in the gift of your Son you have embraced the world with a love that takes away our sin and bestows perfect joy.  Grant to all who have been reborn in baptism fidelity in serving you and generosity in loving one another.  We ask this through Jesus Christ, the firstborn from the dead, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.  Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • An end to the economic difficulties in Greece and other European countries
  • UNICEF’s global ambassadors, those who through their leadership encourage others to care for the world’s children.
  • The work of Christian Aid and for those living in poverty
  • Wycombe General Hospital.  Doctors, nurses, other staff and patients.
  • Residents of The Old Garden Centre (PR) Flowers Bottom Lane & Lily Bottom Lane (Sp)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
    • Gordon Haynes; Joan Male; Richard Irvine; Sally Maddox; Sarah, Matt and Riley; Emma, Matt and Olivia, Isabel
    • The recently departed:
      • Sid Howard
    • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time particularly:
      • Enid Menzies, Norah Cockcroft, Gladys Lemon

Please remember the charities that St Dunstan's supports, in particular this week:
