Sunday 6th May 2012

Fifth Sunday of Easter

We come into the presence of God, the source of all our light and life.  Like branches of the vine, may we draw our strength and nourishment from him, and worship him with glad and thankful hearts

8.00 am Holy Communion, BCP
10.00 am   All Age Family Eucharist and Baptism of Isla Mackellar
Hymns
Introit: 305
Gradual: 332
Offertory: 525
Communion: 47, 590, 88, 386
Recessional: 503

First Reading                1 John 4: 7 - end
The distinguishing characteristic of those born of God will be the love they have for one another.  To love God alone is not enough: believers must also love their brothers and sisters.

Gospel Reading             John 15: 1 - 8
Jesus describes himself to his disciples as the true vine, and urges them to remain in him as the branches remain in the vine.  Just as the branches need to remain in the vine if they are to be fruitful, so the disciples need to remain – abide – in Jesus’ love.

6.00pm             Choral Evensong (Margaret Pitman)
Readings: Isaiah 60: 1 - 14, Revelation 3: 1 – 13
Hymns: 580, Psalm 96 v 1-9, 186, 718

Prayer for the Week
Risen Christ, Your wounds declare your love for the world and the wonder of your risen life: give us compassion and courage to risk ourselves for those we serve, to the glory of God the Father.  Amen.
