David plans to build a permanent house for the ark of God, which at this point rests in a tent. But God, through the prophet Nathan, states that this is to be the task of David’s son. The “house” that God will give David is his offspring, and the kingdom God plans to establish through them.
Second Reading Ephesians 2:11 - end
Paul reminds the Ephesians that they were Gentiles by birth, but have been brought into the covenant by the blood of Christ.
Gospel Reading Mark 6: 30:30-34, 53 - end
The disciples return from their mission and report to Jesus all that had happened. They are exhausted, but Jesus’ attempts to take them to a quiet place to rest and recover their strength are thwarted by the continual demands of the crowds.
Prayer for the Week
Compassionate God, from far and near you gather your Church into one. Safeguard the unity of your flock through the teaching of Christ the Shepherd; that all your scattered children may find in him the guidance and nourishment they seek. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.
Your prayers are asked this week for:
- Children attending, and adults and teenagers helping out at Lighthouse
- Those killed or injured following the shootings in America
- Sportsmen and women, officials, security staff and administrators involved in the Olympic Games
- All those who work in the media, in television, printing and journalism.
- The mission, ministry and congregational life of the Baptist Church, Princes Risborough.
- Residents of Pilgrims Close and Little Ham Lane (MR), Greenway Cottages and Grovers Court (PR)
- Those in need who are known in our parish:
- and also further afield for:
- Gordon Haynes, Joan Male, Richard Irvine
- The recently departed:
- Beryl Stannard
- Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time particularly:
- Ernest Harris, David Sheppard, Christopher Bradley, Christine Griggs.
Please remember the charities that St Dunstan's supports, in particular this week:
Tearfund, working in partnership with Christian agencies and churches worldwide to tackle the causes and effects of poverty.

This is an occasion when children, teenagers or adults decide for themselves to affirm their Christian faith and is traditionally seen as the entry point to receive Holy Communion. Flower Festival 2013 – ‘Saints Preserve us’!
The revised date for this is June 28th to July 1st. This will be a fantastic celebration of floral displays depicting the history of the saints down the ages. More details to follow with plenty of opportunities for volunteers to help.
Bucks Open Studios
We have now received the commission cheque from all of the exhibitors with a final total of over £1000. Combined with the money taken from the cream teas, this event has raised around £1600 this time! Well done and thank you to everyone involved.
Organist/choir director – update
Some of you will be aware that it was decided at a recent PCC meeting not to appoint Diogo Cerdeira on a permanent basis. The choir made a presentation to him at his last choir practice on July 12th in recognition of all his hard work in raising the standard of choral singing. We are hoping to find a replacement(s) for him soon. James
Choir vestry carpet removal
On Monday July 30th the carpet in the choir vestry is being taken up as it is damp and mouldy. The floor will then be left uncovered for a while to allow it to dry out as we decide how or if it should be covered again. Please take extra care when going into the vestry as the surface may be uneven. James
Are you interested in becoming a school governor?
A vacancy will exist to be a church ‘foundation’ governor at Monks Risborough School from the autumn term. This is a very valuable role in helping to manage the school and there are a variety of areas that an individual can specialise in such as finance, health and safety, curriculum or personnel for example. There are two main meetings each term together with other meetings depending on your level of involvement with the school. If you are interested in finding out more please speak with James (275944) or Sue Ingram (275287)
Do you need transport to and from church on a Sunday morning?
We have a small group of volunteers who are able to provide lifts to and from church on a Sunday morning on either a one-off basis or something more regular. If you feel this would be useful to you please telephone Cathy Farquhar (343226) or David Kemp in her absence (344097) to discuss options. For this to run smoothly, Cathy will need to know if lifts are required by Friday tea time each week.
Learning opportunities in the Oxford Diocese
For those who are interested I have put details of some training courses on the notice board that are being offered in the autumn term in the Oxford Diocese. These cover such areas as leading intercessions, an introduction to preaching and ethics. James
