Prayer for the Week
God and judge of all, you show us that the way to your kingdom is through humility and service. Keep us true to the path of justice and give us the reward promised to those who make a place for the rejected and the poor. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen

Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:

  • the people of Syria and for all who live in troubled parts of the world: for their leaders, the international community, the United Nations and a commitment to peace
  • The forthcoming ‘Fun Day’ at St. Dunstan’s and for the necessary work to complete the extension to the churchyard.
  • We give thanks for God’s creation, for the beauty around us and within, we celebrate the creative gifts in our lives and the sense of wonder that makes our spirits fly to God.
  • The Risborough Team: discernment and development of ministry across the team - lay and ordained. The role of the Team Forum.
  • Those that live in Stratton Road & Sycamore House (PR) Skittle Green & Holly Green, (B)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • And also further afield :
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Richard Irvine, Alastair, David Holding
  • The recently departed: Ruth Bartlett
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Lilian Braisher, Mary Ann Copcutt, Phyllis Gibbons
Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
The Church Housing Trust, dedicated to the rehabilitation and resettlement of homeless people of all ages and backgrounds.

Notices

Theft/attempted break in at St. Dunstan’s
Sadly at some point during the day on Wednesday August 28th there was some minor damage and theft of a power-point projector. The police and insurance company have been informed and further steps will be taken to reduce the likelihood and impact of this happening again. In the short term we need to keep the church locked as various locks are changed. As soon as possible we will reopen the church as this has so many benefits to the parish and wider community. I apologise for any inconvenience caused in the meantime. James

St. Dunstan’s Fun Day, Saturday September 7th, 2 - 4.30
This will be a fantastic event with a whole host of attractions and activities including a chance to see some of the finds from the archaeological dig.  We are not having a bric-a-brac stall but if you have any raffle prizes or bottles for the bottle tombola these can be left in church in the box behind the main door.  There is also a bookstall: offers of books to Morna Hinch (345169) who can collect if necessary. Cakes are required for the cream teas and can be brought along on the Saturday morning. If you can help distribute flyers to remind people of this event please write your name on the sheet on the table by the door and take an appropriate number of flyers. Thank you.

Trip to Salisbury Saturday 21st September
Leaving at 8.45 am from the lay-by in Monks Risborough, a coach trip is being organised to Salisbury Cathedral. We shall be leaving Salisbury at about 6.15 pm to return to Monks Risborough at approximately 8.30pm. The cost of the trip is £18 (children £9) which includes entry to the cathedral (cash/cheques payable to PCC Monks Risborough to be passed to James). Please bring a picnic or enjoy the refreshments offered by the cathedral refectory.  If you (and your friends/family) are interested in coming please contact Rev James Tomkins (01844) 275944 jamestomkins@btinternet.com

Can you blow bubbles and read a story (though not at the same time)!
We need to find one or two more people who are willing to help run the Monks Monkeys sessions during term time for the under 5s and their parent/carer. The sessions take place from 2pm to 3pm on a Thursday in the church hall. There is very little preparation time required and the only skill you need to have is to enjoy being with babies and young children. Please speak with James if wish to find out more.

Harvest Festival Services and the Whitechapel Mission
These are taking place at St. Peter’s chapel Owlswick on Sunday September 22nd at 6 pm and at St. Dusntan’s, Monks Risborough on Sunday October 6th at 11.00 am (the latter with The Right Reverend John Pritchard, Bishop of Oxford.) As in previous years we are delighted to accept your donations for the work of the Whitechapel Mission at or before the Harvest services. The Whitechapel Mission provides hot food and drink, showers, clothing, free toilets and the chance of a wash and brush-up to homeless people in London. To enable its work to continue please log on to their website www.whitechapelmission.org.uk, click on ‘donate’ and scroll down to ‘donations in kind’ for a list of the things most desperately needed. A list of urgently required items will also appear in the pew sheet nearer harvest time. Thank you in anticipation of your help. Rev James Tomkins

Harvest Festival Lunch, Sunday October 6th
Following the 11 o'clock Harvest Festival, at St Dunstan’s, a Harvest lunch will be held in the Scout Hut in Courtmoor Close, Monks Risborough. Tickets are available from Pat Kimber (273942): adults £6 and children under 16 free.
