We are here because God has called out to us. As we worship, may God draw us deeper and deeper into the divine purposes of love and salvation for the world.

Prayer for the Week
O God, the giver of every gift that endures; only by your grace can we rightly understand the wonder of life and why it is given. By the word of your Son challenge our foolishness, confront our greed, and shape our lives to the wisdom of the Gospel. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • The people of Syria, in the continuing conflict there and for the people of Palestine and Israel, as they resume peace talks
  • The levelling of the churchyard extension and the creation/consecration of a meadow for burial
  • Adult Learning & Education Programmes and the University of the Third Age.
  • Those who live in Market Square (PR) Main Road & New Road (LG)
  • Those not enjoying their holidays, all who find long school vacations stressful and long for the return to normal life
  • The Confederation of British Industry and its members, for local businesses and the wealth they generate
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Richard Irvine, Alastair, David Holding
  • The recently departed:
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Jack Barraclough, Robin Stoddart, John Parish, Michael Cotter, Jack Neelands, Florence Darkins.

Please remember the charities that the parish supports, in particular this week:
Tearfund, working in partnership with Christian agencies and churches worldwide to tackle the causes and effects of poverty.

This will be a fantastic event with a whole host of attractions and activities (see poster for more details). Please write your name on the sheet in the porch if you can be an extra pair of hands to help on the day to ‘man’ a stall etc. If you can help with the teas/refreshments please write your name on the separate list to be provided by Cathy Farquhar (343226). We are not having a bric-a-brac stall but if you have any raffle prizes or bottles for the bottle tombola these can be left in church in the box behind the main door.  If anyone has a small portable freezer that we can borrow please can they let Johanna Powell know (343996). There is also a bookstall – offers of books to Morna Hinch (345169) who can collect if necessary. Thank you.

Trip to Salisbury Saturday 21st September
Leaving at 8.45 am from the lay-by in Monks Risborough, a coach trip is being organised to Salisbury Cathedral. We shall be leaving Salisbury at about 6.15 pm to return to Monks Risborough at approximately 8.30pm. The cost of the trip is £18 (children £9) which includes entry to the cathedral (cash/cheques payable to PCC Monks Risborough to be passed to James). Please bring a picnic or enjoy the refreshments offered by the cathedral refectory.  If you (and your friends/family) are interested in coming please contact Rev James Tomkins (01844) 275944 jamestomkins@btinternet.com

Thank You and Help!
After many years of being on the Church Cleaning Rota, Sally Mortimer has decided to have a rest and pass on the baton to another able person – SO a very big THANK YOU to her and HELP! I need someone to take her place. Duties are not difficult; mainly dusting and vacuum cleaning, and we work in twos. The more we have the less number of times a year we are called on to help. Please contact Margaret Pitman 01844 346008 if you can help in any way.

More Grass cutters required in the churchyard
We again need to find two or three more people to join our team to help cut the grass in the churchyard. Patches of grass can be given according to the time you have available. Please let James know if you can help.

Can you blow bubbles and read a story (though not at the same time)!
We need to find two more people who are willing to help run the Monks Monkeys sessions during term time for the under 5s and their parent/carer. The sessions take place from 2pm to 3pm on a Thursday in the church hall. There is very little preparation time required and the only skill you need to have is to enjoy being with babies and young children. Please speak with James if you are interested in finding out more.
