Sunday 28th September 2014

Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity

Each of us is called here today to worship, to hear and see, to know and to be changed for ever by the mind of Christ in us. Let us be those who recognise and welcome God’s transforming, saving action for ourselves, for those around us and for the world we know, as we celebrate the presence of God in our lives.

Hymns: 16, Psalm 25 v1-8, 428, 32
Communion: 83, 625, 931

First Reading Ezekiel 18 v 1-4 & 25-end
If an individual is treated according to what she or he does, then how can people accuse God of unfairness?

Second Reading Philippians 2 v 1-13
Paul appeals to the Philippians to let the mind of Jesus be in them.

Gospel Matthew 21 v 23-32
The son who did the will of his father was regarded as right by the teachers of the Law, but they neither welcomed nor recognised the implications of the parable for themselves.

6.00 pm            Owlswick Harvest Festival Evensong

Readings: Deuteronomy 28 v 1-14, Luke 12 v 22-31
Hymns: 259, Psalm 65, 265, 261, 262

Prayer for the Week

O God, you alone judge rightly and search the depths of the heart.  Make us swift to do your will and slow to judge our neighbour that we may walk with those who follow the way of repentance and faith and enter your heavenly kingdom.  Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked in the coming weeks for:

  • The Episcopal Church in America
  • All those caught up in the troubles in Syria and Iraq; that all are kept safe when in dangerous places and that international co-operation will bring about a lasting peace.
  • The next generation of Scientists for a renewed interest in questions beyond our material world
  • For farmers and all those involved in food production and distribution.
  • Youth clubs and youth groups. Buckinghamshire County Council Youth Service. Risborough Springs
  • Ker Maria Nursing Home (PR) Cherry Tree Nursing Home (B)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
  • And also further afield for:
    • Joan Male, Bill Male, Alastair, Matt Elworthy, Uncle Frank, Katy, Albert and Georgina Cole, Susan Parkin, Lynn Nicholls
  • The recently departed:
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time:
    • Peter Steare, Helen White, Denis Cummings, Marjorie Bennett, Brian Frow, Carla Holland.

Please remember the charities that the parish supports:
