The Junior Church (10 o’clock Club) meet in the Church Hall before coming into Church for Communion

  Sunday 15th February 2015
Sunday next before Lent

Hear the voice of God: “This is my beloved Son; listen to him!”

10.00am Parish Eucharist
Hymns: 716, 540, 565
Psalm: 50 v1-6
Communion hymns: 304, 457, 379

First Reading
2 Kings 2:1-12
Elijah’s ascension, like Jesus’ transfiguration, is one of the great subjects of classical painting. For Elijah, it is the final act. For Jesus, it is merely an intermission.

Second Reading 2 Corinthians 4:3-6
Like Paul all of us can encounter “the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” whether or not we have met him in the flesh.

Gospel Mark 9:2-9
The visible alteration of Jesus reveals him to be more than a merely human teacher. The voice from the cloud declares Jesus to be God’s Son and coming straight after Jesus’ first passion prediction, the message is God’s complete endorsement of the cross.

6.00pm Evensong
Readings: 1 Kings 19 v 1-16, 2 Peter 1 v 16-end
Hymns: 70, Psalm 2, 347, 105

8.00pm Ash Wednesday – February 18th
Parish Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes

Hymns: 190, 516, 281
Psalm: 51 v 1-13
Communion: 374, 938
Anthem: Hide not thou thy face, R. Farrant

Prayer for today
We come before you, O God, confident in Christ’s victory over sickness and death. Heal us again from sin, which divides us, and from prejudice which isolates us. Bring us to wholeness of life through the pardon you grant your people. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked in the coming week for:

  • All those caught up in the recent troubles in Ukraine and for the international effort to find a lasting and just peace.
  • All victims of road traffic accidents and for the migrants feared dead crossing the Mediterranean Sea.
  • The observing of Lent and the various courses and books available to help mark this season
  • Summer schools and educational holidays for the experience of all age learning
  • Risborough Rangers Football Club
  • Orchard Close (L) Cherry Tree Close & Moses Plat Lane (Sp)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:

Worship Group Update

Lent sees the introduction of the final booklet in our series of seasonal booklets. The front cover is very striking and the whole booklet will hopefully be an aid to worship during this season. Work is currently being undertaken to update the booklet for the All Age Family Service and a new mass setting in addition to the existing Addington setting is being considered for possible introduction later this year. You can listen to this on http://www.culvermusic.com/trinity-mass.html If you have any comments please let James know.

Lent 2015
As well as the traditional Parish Eucharist and imposition of ashes at 8 pm on Ash Wednesday at St. Dunstan’s the Bethany House Group is also having an informal home communion at 17 Wellington Avenue, Princes Risborough at 10.30 am. All are welcome to either/both services. For further details please contact James (Parish Eucharist) or Rose Williams (Bethany House Group) 274225. There are also some free booklets for Lent called ‘Love life, live Lent’ available on the table by the south door for those who wish to mark Lent in a practical/active way.

Lent Courses for 2015
Two courses are on offer this year. The first course is on the Apocrypha, the set of books that sits between the Old and New Testament in some Bibles. There is the choice of a one day workshop in the church hall on Saturday 28th February from 10.00am—4.00pm. Drinks will be provided but please bring your own packed lunch. Alternatively four sessions will be held on Wednesday mornings, from 10.30 – 12 noon, starting on 4th March at 76 Westmead, Monks Risborough. There is a leaflet on the table giving further information. Please complete and return the tear off slip for this by Sunday February 22nd to Rob or James.
The second course is based on ‘Spiritual Journeys’. This is being organised by Churches Together in Risborough and takes place on Tuesday evenings in March at Costa Coffee in Princes Risborough from 7.30 – 9.30 pm. Further details can be found on the notice board. James.
