Psalm: 104 v26 to end

We hear the voice of wisdom, who is the first of all God’s creatures, and who gives God delight.

Second Reading Colossians 1:15-20
Paul proclaims that Jesus Christ is the “image of the invisible God”, and the means by which everything comes into existence, and by which it is reconciled to God again.

John recasts the Genesis creation story, with Jesus as the Word God speaks to create. But although Jesus is the source of all life, some do not recognise him.

Prayer for the Week
Out of your power and compassion, O God, you sent your Son into our afflicted world to proclaim the day of salvation. Heal the broken-hearted; bind up our wounds. Bring us health of body and spirit and raise us to new life in your service. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked in the coming week for:

  • All those persecuted for their faith
  • All nations where there is ongoing conflict; that they may find the way to peace and reconciliation
  • An end to human trafficking and for the release of those held against their will
  • All Nursery Units within our schools for the firm foundations of good schooling
  • The Royal British Legion and those serving at the RAF base at Walters Ash
  • Greenwood and Grimms Meadow (Walters Ash) Hambye Close & Hets Orchard (LG)

Notices

If you like a job which you can do sitting down, please read on…
If you would like to help occasionally with the placing of microphones and operation of the church's sound system during services, either Susanne or Charlie would be delighted to show you how everything works and offer any guidance you might need. It's really quite straightforward and very rewarding, with no previous knowledge or experience required.

‘Open House’, Monday 16th February at 8pm at the Rectory
Under the umbrella of “The Jesus lifestyle” we shall continue to look at a DVD about the radical teaching found in the Sermon on the Mount and apply it to the 21st century. The talk this time is ‘How to handle difficult people’. The DVD last approximately 35 minutes and leaves plenty of time for discussion at the end. Everyone is welcome. James

Ash Wednesday
As well as the traditional Parish Eucharist and imposition of ashes at 8 pm on Ash Wednesday at St. Dunstan’s the Bethany House Group is also having an informal home communion at 17 Wellington Avenue, Princes Risborough at 10.30 am. All are welcome to either/both services. For further details please contact James (Parish Eucharist) or Rose Williams (Bethany House Group) 274225.

Lent Courses for 2015
Two courses are on offer this year. The first course is on the Apocrypha, the set of books that sits between the Old and New Testament in some Bibles.  This is a rare opportunity to look at the Apocrypha, which is often shrouded in mystery, under Rob’s experienced guidance.
There is the choice of four sessions on Wednesday mornings, from 10.30 – 12 noon, starting on 4th March at 76 Westmead, Monks Risborough or a one day workshop in the church hall on  Saturday 28th February from 10.00am—4.00pm. Drinks will be provided at the latter but please bring your own packed lunch.
There is a leaflet on the table giving further information. Please complete and return the tear off slip for this by Sunday February 15th to Rob or James.

The second course is based on ‘Spiritual Journeys’. This is being organised by Churches Together in Risborough and takes place on Tuesday evenings at Costa Coffee in Princes Risborough from 7.30 – 9.30 pm on the following dates with the following speakers: 03 March: Anne Harding and Celia Sparkes - Walking the route to Santiago in N Spain. 10 March: Ken and June Brazier- Mercy ships and our journey to Sierra Leone. 17 March: Rev Jim Taylor - A journey to Manila in the Philippines. 24 March: Esther Lever - An adventurous journey with God. Each evening ‘stands alone’ so you do not need to sign up to every session. James.

New Church/Parish Guide – Free introductory offer
A new guide to the church and parish is now available. Written by Jill Eyers with photographs by Hayley Watkins, everyone is welcome to take one free copy before the end of February. The suggested donation for visitors will be £2 with the option to gift aid this amount. James

‘Green Lane’ – creation of a soak-away
You’ll notice that the so called ‘Green Lane’ between the church hall and churchyard has been churned up as a result of some essential groundwork to create a soak-away, We will be working to restore the appearance of this area over the next few months to ensure that the churchyard remains a space of beauty and peace. In the meantime please accept my apologies. James

The Friendship Group
We meet in the church hall on the third Wednesday of the month at 2.30 pm. The next meeting is Wednesday 19th February. All welcome!

St. Dunstan’s Fellowship
The next St. Dunstan's Fellowship will be a Sociable Games Evening on Thursday 12th February at the Church Hall, 8pm. Husbands and friends are welcome! Walk Tuesday 24th February – meet in the layby at 9.15am
“Knit-ins” will be in the Church Hall on the 4th Thursday (February 26th) of each month starting at 2.00pm.

A French Concert for All Ages (8 – 88+)!
Featuring local musicians Anna Markland and Phil Crookes performing at St. Dunstan’s on March 28th at 6.30 pm with music to include Poulenc’s Babar the Elephant (with guest narrator!), extracts from Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite for piano duet, Faure’s Dolly Suite and other pieces. Revised Church Electoral Roll
