Sunday 20th November
Christ the King

Through Christ, our heavenly Father urges us to seek first the kingdom in our hearts and lives. Let us come before God in worship, praise and thanksgiving.

10.00 am Parish Communion

Hymns: 54, 337, 16
Psalm: 46
Communion: 931, 81, 381

First Reading Jeremiah 23:1-6
The prophet declares God’s denunciation of the false shepherds of Israel who scatter and destroy the sheep. God will raise up true shepherds for the people, and a king who will rule with God’s justice and righteousness.

Second Reading Colossians 1:11-20
The author prays that the Colossian Christians may know the strength of God’s power, and that they may live their lives in joyful gratitude. He celebrates the Son, “the image of the invisible God”, through whom all creation is reconciled to God.

Gospel Luke 23:33-43
Jesus is led out to the place of crucifixion, where he is hung between two thieves. One of them scorns Jesus, but the repentant thief is promised a place with Christ in paradise.

6.00 pm Evensong
Readings: 1 Samuel 8 v 4-20, John 18 v 33-37
Hymns: 408, Psalm 72v1-8, 319, 537

6.00pm ‘Later’ youth group at Princes Risborough Methodist Church

Prayer of the Week
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us your Son, the beloved one who was rejected, the Saviour who appeared defeated. Yet the mystery of his kingship illuminates our lives. Show us in his death the victory that crowns the ages, and in his broken body the love that unites heaven and earth. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who is lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked for:

  • Millions facing starvation in Madagascar, Zimbabwe and Malawi
  • The Government Inquiry in to child abuse and for all who have suffered as a result of the actions of others
  • Peace in the Middle East: the victims of the suicide car bombing in Iraq and for those caught up in the battle for Mosul
  • For health/life insurance and the assistance it provides those who are too ill to work and their dependents
  • The mission, ministry and congregational life of The Elim Church.
  • Woodfield Road (PR) Gables Drive (Sa)
