Prayer of the Week
God our Saviour, you utter a word of promise and hope and hasten the day of justice and freedom yet we live in a world forgetful of your word, our watchfulness dulled by the cares of life. Keep us alert. Make us attentive to your word, ready to look on your Son when he comes with power and great glory. Make us holy and blameless, ready to stand secure when the day of his coming shakes the world with terror. We ask this through him whose coming is certain, whose day draws near: your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit. God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked for:

  • Victims of sexual, physical or verbal abuse
  • The Prime Minister, for the heavy burden of office and the opportunities to improve the life of our nation
  • The vulnerable, elderly and infirm: Age UK. ‘Open door’
  • Wellington Avenue & Well Lane (MR) Little Orchard Close (L), Little Park (PR)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
    • Joan Ballance, Pam Johnson, Richard Allwood, Pat Kimber
  • And also further afield for:

Exhibition of Masterpieces of English Medieval Embroidery
This is taking place at the Victoria and Albert Museum until February 5th. From the 12th to the 15th centuries, England enjoyed an international reputation for the quality of its luxury embroideries, often referred to as ‘Opus Anglicanum’ (English work). Made by professional craftspeople in the City of London and rich in their intricacy, they were sought after by kings, queens, popes and cardinals from across Europe. Paintings, illuminated manuscripts, metalwork and stained glass will be shown alongside rare surviving examples to explore the world within which these exquisite works were created. This exhibition is a rare opportunity to see an outstanding range of surviving examples in one place. Some of the embroideries have not been seen in Britain since they were produced.
