3.00pm Service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity at St. Mary's, Princes Risborough

Prayer for the week
God of salvation, the splendour of your glory dispels the darkness of earth, for in Christ we behold the nearness of your kingdom. Now make us quick to follow where he beckons, eager to embrace the tasks of the gospel. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen

Your prayers are asked for:

  • The week of prayer for Christian Unity (January 18th-25th) that together Christians across the world might be eager and willing to take the Gospel message of love to the ends of the earth.
  • Donald Trump at the start of a new Presidential term of office, that the Holy Spirit will guide the Government and people of the United States towards a future of hope, dignity and cooperation.
  • The holding of the ceasefire in Syria and for the finding of permanent solutions to the many problems within the Middle East
  • The people of the United Kingdom and of the wider global community that this period of planning for Brexit will be a time of listening, understanding and cooperation.
  • All researchers into new forms of power, especially within our universities
  • The mission, ministry and congregational life of the Baptist Church in Princes Risborough
  • Pilgrim’s Close & Little Ham Lane (MR) Greenway cottages & Grovers Court (PR)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:

Notices

"Pray as you can and not as you can't."
A course for everyone to ask questions you've always wanted to ask about prayer but have been afraid to do so!

Please come on either Friday 27th or Saturday 28th January from 9.30 am - 12.45 pm.
What comes into your mind when you read the word "prayer"? Is it something you think is best left to so-called 'experts'? Is prayer something you enjoy or something you struggle with? Is it an activity reserved for services in church or do you pray every day?
As part of the 'Sustaining our Sacred Centre' programme we are organising a one-off session (on two mornings) to give an opportunity to raise and discuss questions about prayer.  The aim is to help us all increase our confidence in praying regularly. The session will be led by both of us.  We will provide some 'input' but also encourage those who attend to discuss prayer in small and large groups. You are not expected to be an expert!!
We want you to come, relax, enjoy the morning and know you can say anything and ask anything you want! All we ask is that you will bring one or more questions about prayer, written legibly on a piece of paper.  The questions will then anonymously form the basis of our discussions.
Mid-morning refreshments will be provided so please let James or Rob know which session you would like to come to Rev James Tomkins (275944) and Canon Rev Rob Brown (347178)

Words of Worship", a Course led by Rob

If you wish to explore the Christian faith through familiar words found in our Sunday services then please pick up a leaflet and let Rob or James know that you are coming to this course. More details can be found by picking up the leaflet from the table by the south door. You can either attend the course on Saturday 25th February from 10 am - 4 pm or Wednesdays 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th March from 10:30 am - 12 noon. James and Rob

Accommodation required for an angel!
The wicker angel that adorns the church as part of our Christmas celebrations needs a home for the other 11 months of the year. Wrapped in lights the angel measures about 3ft by 4ft so it won’t necessarily fit through a standard loft hatch. If you can provide a home and store the angel please cam you let Gwen Miles (flower arranger team leader 345230) or James know.

Governor vacancy at Monks Risborough School
A strong, well-led governing body, supportive of the school, its teachers and its mission makes an important contribution to a school’s wellbeing and effectiveness.
There is one vacancy at Monks Risborough Church of England School as a ‘foundation’ governor that as part of its brief has a particular care for the school’s Christian character. If you interested in finding out more about this role please speak with James

Reading Volunteers for Monks Risborough School
Could you spare a small amount of time each week to become a regular reading volunteer at Monks Risborough C of E School, and help us with one of our most important activities?
Helping children to become confident, independent readers is one of the most important things that a school can do - and it is an area of our work where parents, carers and other members of the community can make a big difference.
We have a small team of reading volunteers who come into our school regularly, to help the children by listening to them read and by talking to them about their books and reading choices. We are always keen to hear from more people in our community who would be interested in helping and supporting the teaching of reading by joining our volunteers. Thank you for your support. Mr Simon Mullen, Class Two teacher.
To find out more please contact the school (from January 5th) via the office on 01844 345590 or by email office@mrisborough.bucks.sch.uk
Monks Risborough C of E School is committed to safeguarding all of our pupils:  we require enhanced criminal record checks (through the Disclosure and Barring Service) and background checks for all regular volunteers.
