Prayer for the Week
Open the heavens, almighty Father, and pour out your Spirit upon your people gathered in prayer. Renew the power of our baptismal cleansing and fill us with zeal for good deeds. Let us hear your voice again, that we may recognise in your beloved Son our hope of inheriting eternal life. Grant this through Jesus Christ, your Word made flesh, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, in the splendour of eternal light, God for ever and ever.

Sunday 15th January 2017

Paul's vision of the Church was huge: "all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

"Pray as you can and not as you can't."
A course for everyone to ask questions you've always wanted to ask about prayer but have been afraid to do so!

Please come on either Friday 27th or Saturday 28th January from 9.30 am - 12.45 pm.
What comes into your mind when you read the word "prayer"? Is it something you think is best left to so-called 'experts'? Is prayer something you enjoy or something you struggle with? Is it an activity reserved for services in church or do you pray every day?
As part of the 'Sustaining our Sacred Centre' programme we are organising a one-off session (on two mornings) to give an opportunity to raise and discuss questions about prayer.  The aim is to help us all increase our confidence in praying regularly. The session will be led by both of us.  We will provide some 'input' but also encourage those who attend to discuss prayer in small and large groups. You are not expected to be an expert!!
We want you to come, relax, enjoy the morning and know you can say anything and ask anything you want! All we ask is that you will bring one or more questions about prayer, written legibly on a piece of paper.  The questions will then anonymously form the basis of our discussions.
Mid-morning refreshments will be provided so please let James or Rob know which session you would like to come to Rev James Tomkins (275944) and Canon Rev Rob Brown (347178)
Coming in Lent…"Words of Worship", a Course led by Rob with a choice of either Saturday 25th February from 10 am - 4 pm or Wednesdays 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th March from 10:30 am - 12 noon. More details to follow…

Reading Volunteers for Monks Risborough School
Could you spare a small amount of time each week to become a regular reading volunteer at Monks Risborough C of E School, and help us with one of our most important activities?
Helping children to become confident, independent readers is one of the most important things that a school can do - and it is an area of our work where parents, carers and other members of the community can make a big difference.
We have a small team of reading volunteers who come into our school regularly, to help the children by listening to them read and by talking to them about their books and reading choices. We are always keen to hear from more people in our community who would be interested in helping and supporting the teaching of reading by joining our volunteers. Thank you for your support. Mr Simon Mullen, Class Two teacher.
To find out more please contact the school (from January 5th) via the office on 01844 345590 or by email office@mrisborough.bucks.sch.uk
Monks Risborough C of E School is committed to safeguarding all of our pupils:  we require enhanced criminal record checks (through the Disclosure and Barring Service) and background checks for all regular volunteers.
