Christ the King - Sunday next before Advent

This is the last Sunday of the Church’s year. Today we rejoice in Christ the King, ruler and judge of all, who sits on the throne of glory. We long to inherit the kingdom prepared for us from the foundation of the world, and gather now to worship God.

10.00am Parish Communion

First Reading
Ezekiel 34:11-16 & 20-24
God is the shepherd who not only tends the lame and seeks out the lost, but also judges the behaviour of the flock.

Second Reading Ephesians 1:15-end
Christ has dominion over all, in heaven and earth, and the Church, and we have been promised the glorious inheritance of the saints.

Gospel Matthew 25:31-end
Christ comes as king and judges his flock, and will count anyone’s treatment of the least in society as if it were he himself who was hungry, thirsty and needed clothing.

Hymns: 382, 407, 683
Psalm 95: 1-7
Communion: 381, 554, 931

3.00pm Evensong at Owlswick
Hymns: 433, 271, 352, 500        Psalm 93
Readings: 2 Samuel 23 v 1-7 & Matthew 28 v 16-end

Prayer of the Week
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us your Son, the beloved one who was rejected, the Saviour who appeared defeated. Yet the mystery of his kingship illuminates our lives. Show us in his death the victory that crowns the ages, and in his broken body the love that unites heaven and earth. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • Those caught up in the suicide bombing in Nigeria, those being persecuted in Myanmar and those who continue to suffer in Yemen
  • The people of Zimbabwe as they make a peaceful transition to a new democracy
  • Those involved in running Christian clubs/groups for children/young people in Churches, schools and other venues
  • Claims and loss adjusters as they seek to offer fair settlements to those in crisis after theft or accident losses.
  • Those who live on farms and in isolated areas. Riding Stables in this area.
