Prayer of the Week
God of wisdom, whose word probes the motives of our hearts, with you all things are possible. Let worldly treasure not keep us from Jesus, who looks on us with love. Free us to leave all things and follow him, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • Charlotte and Ernest as they begin their journey of faith through Baptism
  • Those whose lives have been wrecked recently by natural disasters in Haiti, Indonesian, Central America and the USA
  • Those with mental health difficulties and those who support and help them through their illness
  • All those living in prisons; for their safety, reconciliation and rehabilitation in taking a constructive part in society
  • Publicans and for our local public houses, giving thanks for the community building roles of many pubs.
  • Princes Risborough Town Council, Community and Residents’ Associations.
  • Kingsmead (MR) Centenary Cottages & Chestnut Way (L) Chiltern Close (PR)
  • Those who are in need in our parish:
    • Joan Ballance, Pam Johnson, Pam Lidgley, Sue Caudery, Iris Hutchison and Veronica Parker
  • And also further afield for:
    • Alastair, Georgina Cole, Ginny Gibbs, Alex Chauhan, Cathy Owen, Gail, Suzy Cooper, Anna Ballard and Janet Drurie
  • The recently departed:
Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time: Brian Farrelly, Joan Turnbull, John Miller, Edith Cave.

‘Pilgrim Course’: an opportunity to explore The Creeds

Over the next few months on a variety of evenings there will be an opportunity to take a fresh look at The Apostles and Nicene Creeds that form part of our worship on a Sundays. The next meeting takes place from 7.30pm to 9.00pm at the Rectory on Thursday October 18th. It’s not compulsory to attend every evening as the course has been designed so that people can ‘dip in and out’ as they please. Please do chat to me if you’re not sure as to whether this might be suitable for you or simply come along on the evening. James

Silent Prayer Meeting, Monday October 22nd at 8 pm
We need silence to help us to get a proper perspective on our lives; to hear the still, small voice of God, and to refresh our inner being. All are welcome to these meetings of any faith or none. Each meeting lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. The meeting starts with some simple relaxation exercises, a short passage from the Bible to reflect upon in the half hour of silence, followed by a time of sharing of our experiences if people wish. James

Volunteers required for churchyard leaf sweep
At 9.30 am on Saturday November 3rd and Saturday December 1st we are looking to clear the fallen leaves from the churchyard. Please can you bring along a rake and/or leaf grabber if you have one and we will provide plenty of big, garden sacks. Rev James Tomkins

Family Bonfire Night suitable for All Ages
Open to everyone especially if you prefer colour and prettiness over loud bangs! This will take place on Saturday November 3rd 5.30pm – 7.30pm at 32 Summerleys Road, Princes Risborough. Hot soup, mulled wine, hot chocolate, soft drinks and snacks will be served. Please bring ONE firework (not too loud!). RSVP Sue Ingram, 275287 or suemingram@hotmail.com

Dying Matters
Talking about death, dying and funerals raises big questions that it’s helpful to face at some point, but it can be hard to talk to family and friends. On Saturday October 27th and Wednesday October 31st there is an opportunity to come along to a session from 10am to 12 noon at 17 Wellington Avenue, Princes Risborough (home of Revs. Steve and Rose Williams) to think, chat and articulate these questions in a relaxed environment. A series of question cards are used to encourage conversations and to listen to others’ perspectives and experiences in small groups. The sessions are open for people of all faiths, doubts and none. To book a place on one of these sessions please contact Rev James Tomkins jamestomkins@btinternet.com 01844 275944 stating your preferred date.

Fabric Projects at St. Dunstan’s and St. Peter’s
In the next few months we hope to undertake a number of projects. These include the redecoration of the whole church; the conservation of the pulpit; the conservation of the tin arch at St. Peter’s; repairs to the stonework, protecting the path past the church hall to the churchyard and repairing the path from the bell tower to the churchyard. We hope to meet the cost of these projects through existing funds, legacies and previous fund raising activities. Longer term we are looking to create additional toilets at the back of the church hall to cope with the large number of visitors that come to events, funerals, weddings and other services at St. Dunstan’s. James
