The 5th Sunday after Trinity
Today we remember that it is in the nature of God’s kingdom to grow. Trees grow from the tiniest of seeds and the kingdom spreads from the smallest of beginnings. May this both encourage and challenge us today!

First Reading 1 Kings 3 v5-12
Before the Temple in Jerusalem had been build, King Solomon offered sacrifices at Gibeon. It was at Gibeon that God spoke to him through a dream.
Second Reading Romans 8 v26 - end
Paul continues his teaching upon the role of the Holy Spirit in the Christian life and the invincible nature of Christ’s love for us.
Gospel Reading Matthew 13 v 31-33, 44-52
Jesus continues teaching about the kingdom of heaven through a series of parables.

Prayer for the week
God of eternal wisdom, you alone impart the gift of right judgment. Grant us an understanding heart, that we may value wisely the treasure of your kingdom and gladly forgo all lesser gifts to possess that kingdom’s incomparable joy. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.

Prayer for the week
Bountiful and compassionate God, you place in the hands of your disciples the food of life. Nourish us at your holy table, that we may bear Christ to others and share with them the gifts we have so richly received. We make our prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit God for ever and ever.

Winchester Visit
On August 13th there is a trip to Winchester. We shall be having a guided tour of the Cathedral, which will include access to the Library to view the 12th Century Winchester Bible, and to the King James Bible Exhibition (celebrating its 400 year anniversary).We shall have the opportunity to attend Choral Evensong at 5.30pm. The cost of the visit will depend on the numbers but with a full coach will be in the region of £10-£15 without the cathedral visit and £15-£20 with the guided tour. If you would like to go, please let Rosemary know-344417 or sign up in the porch.
