Sunday 11th Nov 2012

 3rd Sunday before Advent
Remembrance Sunday

We come together as people on a journey, adventuring together in the Gospel, coming together to praise the one whose love transforms us all.

10.00 am   Parish Eucharist – (Addington Setting)
Joint Remembrance Service with Owlswick
followed by further Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial

Hymns: 153, 186, 144 & 19
Communion: 723, 437, 924
National Anthem: 230, verse 1

First Reading                Jonah: 3: 1-5 & v 10

After a reluctant start and deep-sea adventures, Jonah sets out to preach God’s message of repentance to the people of Nineveh.  He receives and overwhelmingly positive response from great and small like.

Second Reading           Hebrews 9: 24 - end

The writer to the Hebrews draws his argument together: Christ is the fulfilment of the Jewish Law. The repeated ritual of Jewish sacrifice models Christ’s one-for-all sacrifice that opens the way to God permanently.

Gospel Reading          Matthew 25.31 - 46

Jesus speaks about the end of time and the kingly power that will be seen in the coming of the Son of Man. He reveals what the standard of judgement will be for entry into this kingdom – either we did, or did not, care for him in the needy.

6:00pm   Choral Evensong
Readings: Isaiah: 10:33 – 11: 9; John 14: 23 - 29
Hymns:   372, Psalm 46, 690, 682

Prayer for the Week
Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of all: govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Your prayers are asked this week for:

  • All who have given their lives in the wars of the twentieth century and in more recent conflicts
  • Civilians of war who have been innocently killed
  • Bishop Justin Welby as he prepares to take up the post of Archbishop of Canterbury
  • Barack Obama, as he begins a new term as President of the United States:
  • Those who work at Leo Pharma UK and other companies/industries within and around Princes Risborough.
  • Residents of: Northfields Rd (PR), Roundlands and Eastlands (LG)
  • Those in need who are known in our parish:
  • and also further afield for:
    • Gordon Haynes, Joan and Bill Male, Richard Irvine, Alastair
  • The recently departed: Pam Gordon
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time
Please remember the charities that St Dunstan's supports, in particular this week:

Searchlight Theatre Company presents...

The most wonderful time of year’: this show follows the story of a family whose Christmas television is cut short and they are forced to entertain themselves. How will they survive without voting for their X Factor and Strictly favourites, hearing ‘The Sound of Music’ or looking for sunshine with Morecambe and Wise? Find out as the cast bring together a unique combination of drama and song and recreate some wonderful and classic seasonal moments on stage. The show is being organised by Church Together in Risborough and takes place on Saturday December 1st at 7.30 pm at the Oasis Centre, 9 Bell Street, Princes Risborough, HP27 0DE. Tickets are available on the door for £5 or £15 for families. The show lasts about 90 minutes with an interval.

10 o’clock club helpers required
We have a number of very committed people who help to run our children’s activities on a Sunday morning. They are split into different groups so that on average people help out approximately every six weeks in putting together a programme for the children to enjoy using various resources that are available. With a couple of helpers stepping down we need two or three more people to help out with the club. No skills are required just a willingness to work with young people. If you are interested in helping out, please let James know.

LARGE PRINT AT ST DUNSTAN’S
WE HAVE A SUPPLY OF LARGE PRINT HYMN BOOKS AS WELL AS SERVICE SHEETS FOR THE 10 AM SERVICE. PLEASE ASK A SIDESPERSON IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE ONE. We also have a supply of the music for the Addington mass setting. Again please ask a sidesperson if you would like to have a copy.

Stewardship Initiative
Thank you very much for all the responses received so far. These have and will make a big difference to the ongoing life and worship of this church. It’s not too late to return your form whilst recognising there are many other ways in which people serve this Church. James
